1 Malloc failure Issue: If the server runs out of memory, it reports a memory allocation (malloc) failure. The server will probably continue running successfully for small operations. Note that this discussion is for error 300, a malloc error on the server. See Malloc failure in the section entitled Problems with the User and Administrator Tools later in this chapter for an explanation of a malloc failure on a client. Action: If the operation being performed is a large one (such as issuing a query that returns 50,000 entries), you might try refining your query criteria so that it returns a smaller number of entries. The System Administrator for the system can free memory on the server machine by shutting down unneeded processes. This may free enough memory space for the operations you want to perform. If you get a malloc failure when starting the AR System server, you must shut down some other processes since there is not enough memory to initialize the environment for the AR System server. No server license Issue: If you do not have a valid license for the software, the server starts up but issues a warning that you do not have a license. It starts successfully and allows you to access the product as if you had a license with two important restrictions: •You can create a maximum of three (3) users who have a fixed license. •You can create a maximum of about 50 entries (ARs) in each schema. Action: You can only use the system for evaluation purposes before obtaining either a demo or full license from your authorized distributor. For information about user licenses, see the discussion in the section Problems with Access Control that follows. 16 Action Request System Troubleshooting and Error Messages Guide—December 1995
