Keep in mind that it is possible to
exceed the encoder sampling rate if, for
example, the encoders are held freely in
the hand and their shafts rotated quickly
with the fingers. Alternatively, if the
encoders are mounted on a scope but
have been geared to produce a much
higher resolution, the user should be
careful not to exceed the sampling rate.
See the section on MODE ENCODER for a
discussion of the sampling rate and how
to calculate the maximum slew rate for
your setup.
RA and Dec values seem to change
simultaneously when scope is
moved in one axis
Symptoms
• After performing a star alignment,
you examine the readout in MODE
RA DEC and see that when you
move the scope only in one axis,
both RA and Dec values appear to
change.
Suggestion
If your mount is only roughly polar-aligned
or is of the Az/Alt type such as a
Dobsonian, this is not a problem at all.
When such scopes move only in one axis
at a time, both RA and Dec values should
change simultaneously. This is because
the axis of rotation of your mount does not
match the axis of rotation of the sky. Only
exactly aligned polar mounts have this
attribute.
