System-Level Inventory and
Change Management
An advanced plug-in for NetSight, NetSight
Inventory Manager is a multidevice management application, which provides
system-level firmware, configuration and
hardware cataloging information allowing
network managers to inventory and
change-manage the components and
configuration of their Enterasys network.
NetSight Inventory Manager enables
users to take advantage of the enhanced
features of Enterasys hardware and manage
all Enterasys infrastructure components
cohesively as a system, as well as maintain
an organized central database for data
collection and historic information
reporting.
Configuration tracking is accomplished
by combining the configuration save/
restore feature of Enterasys network devices
with the control-like change management
built into NetSight Inventory Manager.
With this unique change-tracking
p h i l o s o p h y, Inventory Manager can
track configuration changes made by
other NetSight applications, third-party
management applications, or the local
console (CLI) connection through a single
unified interface. In addition, Inventory
Manager can track the addition, removal
and movement of chassis modules and
the daughter cards installed within them.
It records unique device identifiers,
and detects, tracks and reports swapping
of hardware modules and IP addresses
during network upgrades, reconfigurations
and troubleshooting events.
Implementation of NetSight Inventory
Manager requires deployment of NetSight
Console as the central component
for infrastructure view synchronization,
information sharing and preferences
configuration. NetSight and NetSight
advanced plug-in applications have been
designed for use on Windows XP/2000/
2003, Linux or Solaris operating systems.
NetSight Inventory Manager is part of
the NetSight enterprise-class network
management system that provides command
