Recording equipment should be used only for lawful copying and

This unit has a regional code printed on the
rear of the unit and can play only DVD discs
labelled with the same code as on the rear of
the unit or “ALL”.

other rights owners. Use of this copyright protection technology
must be authorised by Macrovision Corporation, and is intended

Most DVD discs have a globe with one or more numbers in it
clearly visible on the cover. This number must match your unit’s
regional code or the disc cannot play. If you try to play a DVD
with a different regional code from the unit, the message
“Incorrect region code. Can’t play back” appears on the
TV screen.

This unit can play and record all widely-used DVD types. The table below shows some specific compatability differences depending on the disc types.
The table below shows the file formats and media types that this unit can playback.
DVD – Discs such as movies that can be purchased or rented.
Audio CD – Music CDs or CD-R/RWs in music CD format that can be purchased.
Data disc (DivX, JPEG, MP3 or WMA) – Discs that contain DivX, JPEG, MP3 or WMA files.

1. All faulty components which fail due to defective manufacture
will be replaced free of charge for a period of 12 months from

enable LG to assist you in the future should you lose your receipt,
your unit is stolen, or should modifications be necessary.
2. The dealer (or his service agent) who sold the product will
be reimbursed for any labour provided in the repair of this LG

POWER: This unit operates on a mains supply of 200-240V~, 50/60Hz.
WARNING: This unit is supplied with a BSI 1363 approved 13 amp mains
plug, fused at 5 amp. When replacing the fuse always use a 5 amp BS 1362, BSI or ASTA
approved type. Never use this plug with the fuse cover omitted. To obtain a replacement
fuse cover contact your dealer. If the type of plug supplied is not suitable for the mains
sockets in your home, then the plug should be removed and a suitable type fitted. Please
refer to the wiring instructions below:
WARNING: A mains plug removed from the mains lead of this unit must be
destroyed. A mains plug with bared wires is hazardous if inserted in a mains
socket. Do not connect either wire to the earth pin, marked with the letter E
or with the earth symbol or coloured green or green and yellow.
If any other plug is fitted, use a 5 amp fuse, either in the plug, or at the distribution board.
IMPORTANT: The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with
the following codes:
BLUE: NEUTRAL, BROWN: LIVE - As the colours of the wires in the mains
lead of this unit may not correspond with the coloured marking identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the
terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured
brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.

REMOTE CONTROL BATTERY INSTALLATION
Remove the battery cover on the rear of the Remote
Control, and insert one AAA size battery with
+ and - matched correctly.

CONNECTING YOUR LG RECORDER
1. CONNECT AERIAL TO HDD/DVD RECORDER
3. CONNECT HDD/DVD RECORDER TO TV
Connect terrestrial TV aerial to the ‘ANTENNA IN’ port on the unit. If you
use an indoor aerial, select one with a signal amplifier rated at 5v, 100mA
and set [Antenna Feed 5V] to [ON] in the set-up menu.
SCART CABLE
DO NOT connect or disconnect SCART cable whilst unit or TV is switched on.
SCART cable connections are quick & simple to connect.
Take the SCRAT cable and connect to AV1 SCART port on the
unit. Then connect to an available SCART port on TV.

4. CONNECT MAINS POWER
Connect cable to ‘ANTENNA OUT’ port on the unit and to ‘ANTENNA IN’
port on TV so you can watch the TV without switching the unit on.
Connect the power cord to ‘AC IN’ terminal on the unit. Then plug the
power cord into mains socket. Turn POWER ON to the unit and TV.

OTHER OPTIONS
HDMI CABLE
HDMI connection is the digital replacement to the old SCART standard
and provides the best picture and sound quality as well as being quick and
simple to connect.
COMPONENT (Y PB PR) CABLE
A HD connection can also be obtained by using a Component cable.
Connect to COMPONENT OUTPUT port on the unit and to COMPONENT
INPUT port on your TV. Also connect audio cables (Red & White) to
analogue AUDIO OUTPUT port on the unit and to AUDIO INPUT port on TV.
Component cable sold separately.
Connect to HDMI OUTPUT port on the unit and to HDMI INPUT port on your TV.
You can change the resolution (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p) for the
HDMI output by pressing RES button on the front of the unit repeatedly.

Connect to S-VIDEO OUTPUT port on the unit and to S-Video INPUT port
on TV. Also connect audio cables (RED & WHITE) to the analogue AUDIO
OUTPUT port on the unit and to AUDIO INPUT port on TV.

5. AUTO SET-UP
PLAYING A DVD DISC
When the ‘POWER’ is turned on for the first time or when resetting the unit
the clock will be set and channels tuned automatically.
a. Press the [ ] button on the remote control to open
disc tray. Insert disc.
b. Press the [ ] button on the remote control to close
the disc tray.
c. Most DVD discs will play automatically and you will notice
[Read] in the display window.
d. To stop playback press the [ ] button.
e. To restart play back press the [ ] Button.
f. To scan or skip chapters on the disc press the scan [
or skip [
] buttons.
SELECT LANGUAGE
Use [
] to select a language
for set-up menu and on-screen display.
Press OK [ ].

ACCESSING FREEVIEW & THE DIGITAL EPG
(Electronic Program Guide)
The DIGITAL EPG provides access to scheduled FREEVIEW TV
programs and also contains detailed information about individual
programs. Please note that the units clock must be set to ensure the
correct is displayed.
SET THE CLOCK
Use [
] to select the
[Clock set] option. Press OK [ ].
[AUTO]: When channel auto search is
completed the actual time and date are
set automatically.
[MANUAL]: Enter the correct date and
time. Press OK [ ] to confirm settings.
To access the EPG and view available scheduled Digital TV
programs:
• Press [GUIDE] on remote control to display EPG Menu.
• Use [
] to select a TV program.

To view the now & next available scheduled programs listing:
a) Press [GUIDE]. EPG Menu is displayed.
b) Press [Yellow] to display Now/Next menu.

Recording from the EPG
Never miss your favorite FREEVIEW TV program, Simply record to
Hard Disk using following easy steps.
To view scheduled programs for the next 8-days:
a) Press [GUIDE]. EPG Menu is displayed.
b) Press [Green].

To view detailed information for program being viewed:

Instant recording
The Instant record feature records your current program using your
existing settings direct to the hard disk (HDD).
To start instant recording:
• Press REC [ ] button on remote control. Recording starts,
onto HDD.
If stop time required:
• Press REC [ ] repeatedly to increase length of recording (10,
20, 30 minutes etc).
To stop recording:
• Press STOP [ ].
To cancel recording:
a) Select program.
b) Press [Red].
c) Re-select option.
d) Press OK [ ] button. Timer icon will be removed.
QUICK START
To set timer from EPG:
a) Press [GUIDE]. EPG Menu is displayed.
b) Press [Yellow] to change EPG to 8 Days menu.

HDMI cables provide optimal connection that produces better picture
& sound quality than a SCART connection and gives you access to
the HD upscaling features of this unit. You can alter the resolution for
the HDMI output by pressing the RES button on the front of the unit
repeatedly (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p).
To connect a High Definition television or other HDMI enabled device:

• Use a digital audio cable (coaxial or optical) to connect Digital

MAIN GUIDE
To protect a title against accidental recording, editing or deletion:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [DVD] or [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select title to protect
e) Press OK [ ]
f) Select Edit option to display editing menu
g) Select Protect option from left panel
h) Press OK [ ]. Lock mark is displayed on title thumbnail.
To unprotect the title:
i) Select Unprotect option from editing menu in left panel
j) Press OK [ ] to confirm

USING THE DISC MENU
PAUSE/STEP [ ]: Deletes a character after cursor position
STOP [ ] / [CLEAR]: Deletes character before cursor position
]: Moves cursor to left or right

[MENU/LIST] / [INFO]: Changes character set on keyboard menu.
Numbers [0-9]: Enters that number at cursor position
• To apply a genre for a selected title on HDD:
i Highlight a character on keyboard menu
ii Press and hold [ ] until curser jumps across to Genre option
ii Highlight genre
iv Press OK [ ] to select. Chosen genre name will appear at
lower right corner of title thumbnail.
j) Select OK on keyboard menu to confirm new name (and genre)
To use disc setting functions without entering set up menu:
a) Press [DVD] on remote control to select DVD mode
b) Press [MENU/LIST]
c) Select Disc option
d) Press OK [ ] to display further options:
• Disc Format: Format disc
• Finalize: Finalize disc
• Unfinalize: Unfinalize disc
• Disc Label: Supply a name for disc. Name will appear when
disc is loaded
• Protect: Prevent accidental recording, editing, deleting of the
inserted disc
• Unprotect: Remove protect function
COMBINING CHAPTERS
To merge selected chapter with previous chapter:
a) Ensure playback stopped
b) Press [DVD] or [HDD]
c) Press [MENU/LIST]
d) Select chapter
e) Press OK [ ]
f) Select Edit option to display editing menu
g) Select Combine. Combine indicator is displayed between
chapter thumbnails.
h) Press OK [ ]
NB This function will not work if:
• There is only one chapter in title
• First chapter is selected
• Chapters to be combined are created by deleting part of
Original title
• Chapters to be combined are created from different titles
• One of Playlist chapters to be combined has been moved
OVERWRITING
To overwrite an unprotected video recording:
a) Select TV channel or input source you want to record
b) Press [MENU/LIST]
c) Select a title to overwrite
d) Press REC [ ] to start overwrite
To stop the recording:
• Press STOP [ ]
If recording is longer than title being overwritten, following title will
also be overwritten, unless protected.
If following title is protected, overwriting stops.

DUBBING A TITLE

DUBBING A TITLE FROM HDD TO DVD, OR FROM

Select SETUP
Press OK [ ] to display set up menu

Select Dubbing option from middle panel
Press OK [ ] to start dubbing. Currently set recording mode (XP,
SP, LP, EP or MLP) will apply. Playback jumps back to start of title

To copy more titles (from HDD only):
• Select next file

• When dubbing from DVD to HDD, only a VR mode formatted
disc can use Fast mode.
• When dubbing from HDD to VR mode DVD-RW or DVDRAM, the Fast mode is not available for edited HDD titles and
Clip Recording titles.
• When dubbing an edited title from VR mode DVD-RW or
DVD-RAM to HDD the Fast mode is not available.
h) Press OK [ ]

Works only for DVD± finalized with video formatted DVD-RW or for

GENERAL

The Power does not
turn on

Check the mains cable is plugged into the Unit and mains
outlet securely.
Check the disc format is compatible with this unit.
Try resetting the unit by holding the POWER button for
FIVE seconds.
Check the disc region code is compatible with this unit.
The unit does not
playback.
Select the appropriate video input (AV) mode on the TV so
the picture from the unit appears.
There is no picture.
Picture Noise Appears.
Check the disc for signs of damage and dirt.
Check the Video Output Format in the SETUP menu is set
to the appropriate item that conforms to your connection.
Disable or alter the Parental locks and Rating function.
You are playing a disc recorded in a colour system (PAL,
NTSC, SECAM) that is different from your TV.
Ensure the disc has been finalised (see page 26).
The video signal from the external device is copyprotected.
Cannot play a disc
recorded on this unit on

Check antenna connection to your unit.

Check you are pointing the remote at the sensor on the
unit.
The movie file Codec is not compatible with this unit.

decoder, set [Dolby Digtal] and [MPEG] to [PCM] in the
setup menu.
Check cables for signs of damage.
Your TV is not equipped with DTS decoder, set [DTS]
