Apps for health control will soon be standard applications for smartphones
and tablets. Since the introduction of VitaDock® and the first VitaDock® app in 2010
MEDISANA has done pioneering work in this area. MEDISANA develops its products
in conjunction with telecommunication companies, hardware manufacturers, software
developers, and product designers. The current products already reflect the experiences
accumulated through several product generations and many software iterations.

NEW TECHNOLOGIES do not only empower people with an information mobility that allows them to both gather and share
information at any time and in any place. Modern medical diagnostic devices provide especially support for those with less mobility
to monitor their most important vital signs as well as to analyse and synchronise them and to share them with doctors, fitness trainers,
health insurance companies or even friends. Therefore mobile health control has taken on enormous importance for those who find
themselves in circumstances where health care infrastructures are limited and they do not live close to medical practitioners and
other health care facilities. This and other advantages of mobile self-monitoring of one‘s health are acknowledged and encouraged
by government health care authorities as well as by the operators of medical networks. We seek to provide a higher level of health
care while at the same time reducing the cost thereof.

Professional organizations predict that in 2023 there will be ONE THIRD LESS GENERAL PRACTITIONERS
(Ärztemonitor 2014). This lack of practitioners will have its quickest and most intense effect on less attractive, rural areas. The cause
of this development is both the reduced attractiveness of many locations but principally the reduced number of the next generation
of doctors.
In order to nonetheless guarantee medical care in the face of this apparently unstoppable development, health care officials have
called for the manufacturers of mobile diagnostic devices, developers of medical software, and operators of health portals to develop products that can address this threat of a lack of sufficient health care.
For the foreseeable future POCT DIAGNOSIS (Point-of-Care Testing and/or laboratory diagnostic techniques that are accessible
to patients) will constitute a pillar for the provision of medical care – above all, where general practitioners are not locally accessible. Patients themselves can easily and comfortably carry out simple applications such as blood pressure monitoring, weighing
themselves or checking blood glucose levels. Of course MEDISANA recommends the additional security of an examination by a
doctor, pharmacist or other health care professional in addition to regular self-monitoring.
