Application protection with IIS 5.0 isolation mode By comparison, in worker process isolation mode, all requests for ASP.NET and ASP Web applications are handled by an instance of W3WP.exe. You can create more application pools and isolate virtual directories to run under a specific application pool. Note By default, when an instance of the W3WP.exe process starts, it runs under the identity of NetworkService, not LocalSystem or IWAM_MachineName. Changing Application Isolation Worker process isolation mode is the preferred mode and also the default mode for clean installations of Windows Server 2003. However, for upgrades of Windows NT Server 4.0, you must reconfigure the application isolation mode manually. To change from isolation mode to worker process isolation mode: 1. Right-click 2.
