5–Validation Methods for DCB and FCoE Validation Step 4—Validate PFC and Lossless Link Validation Step 4—Validate PFC and Lossless Link The critical factor for a successful FCoE deployment is the ability of the virtual Ethernet link to carry lossless FCoE traffic. Figure 5-14 shows the test configuration to validate PFC function and to validate that the link is lossless. 4Gbps 10Gbps Figure 5-14. PFC Validation Setup Validation Process The test assumes the following: The hosts have storage LUNs mapped and can generate I/O to storage devices. The Analyzer connects to the FCoE switch with a 10 Gbps link, and the FCoE switch connects to the Fibre Channel storage target with a 4Gbps link. 1. Configure the MLTT test as follows: 2. Data size: 512K (writes only) Queue depth: eight Bandwidth: 100 percent at the Fibre Channel link between the storage and the FCoE switch Launch the test. The test is designed to overwhelm the 4Gbps link with Write commands so that the Fibre Channel link runs out of buffer-to-buffer credits, and the FCoE switch issues PFC Pause frames to pause the Converged Network Adapter transmitter. 51031-00 A 5-15
