Foreword for Victorian readers of the ARAA Industry Code
I congratulate the Australian Rope Access Association on the second
edition (September 2005) of its Industry Code for the Industrial Rope
Access Method.
When read in conjunction with AS/NZS 4488, Parts 1 & 2, the ARAA
Industry Code provides the necessary state of knowledge and advice for
industrial rope access systems to be set up and used safely.
WorkSafe also recommends that industrial rope access system users,
including supervisors, should have successfully completed a competencybased course of training such as those approved by the ARAA or
equivalent.
When determining industrial rope access compliance with the
Occupational Health and Safety (Prevention of Falls) Regulations 2003
and the Occupational Health and Safety (Plant) Regulations 1995,
WorkSafe inspectors use the ARAA Industry Code and AS/NZS 4488 as
their yardsticks.
