Fish Follies by Nancy H.Barrett USB Users: Works directly with most USB Stick compatible embroidery machines. To access the designs, insert the USB stick into your embroidery machine (if applicable). Refer to your machine’s user manual for instructions on using a USB stick. If your embroidery machine does not access designs from a USB stick, then insert the stick into your USB compatible personal computer. Access the information from MY COMPUTER. CD Users: Insert the CD into your embroidery machine’s CD reader (if applicable). Refer to your machine’s user manual for instructions on using a CD. If your embroidery machine does not access designs from a CD, then insert the CD into your personal computer. The CD should autorun, if it does not, access the information from MY COMPUTER and double click on “autorun.exe” NOTE: It is not recommended that these designs be scaled. If you must scale a design and it is a multi-hoop design you must scale all pieces the same percentage to ensure that the pieces of the nal sh will line up properly. After hooping your backing and background fabric, spray the back of a hooped sized piece of appliqué fabric with HRFive R and apply to the background fabric in the hoop. PHOTO 1 See hint below to determine exact size. 2. Embroider the guide stitch. (This is noted on your thread chart.) PHOTO 2 3. Using small, sharp scissors carefully cut away the excess appliqué fabric around the sewn guide stitch. PHOTO 3 4. Embroider the tackdown. (This is noted on your thread chart.) PHOTO 4 5. Embroider the cover stitch. (This is noted on your thread chart.) PHOTO 5 6. Repeat as required to nish the design. PHOTO 6 Hints & Tips: • When trimming excess appliqué fabric, use small, sharp scissors. Be very careful that your blade does not cut your background fabric. • If you prefer to salvage as much of your appliqué fabric as possible, you can sew your guide stitch before placing your appliqué fabric. Cut your appliqué fabric only as big as it needs to be to cover the guide stitch and still leave enough excess to easily trim around it. Barrett Multi-hooping p g Instructions OESD has perfected the multi-hooping technique to bring you a user friendly process that will leave your friends in awe of the designs you will create. Multi-hooping can seem a bit intimidating for even a seasoned embroiderer, but if you follow the simple steps below you’ll see that there is nothing that you cannot achieve with ease. The following designs use the multi-hoop technique to create one nished design (refer to the end of this instructional section for diagrams of how the pieces t together). Barrett SMBA Fish Follies by Nancy H.Barrett Foreword: There are a total of eight sh in this collection that use the multi-hoop technique. Each one will use either 2, 3 or 4 hoopings. Because the 4 hooping sh may seem the most difcult, we have chosen to give you instructions from beginning to end for one of these sh. Keep in mind that if you are sewing a sh with only two hoopings you would stop at step number 11 and if you are sewing a sh with only three hoopings you would stop at step number 19. This example uses designs CC83633, CC83634, CC83635 & CC83636. 1. Hoop one layer of OESD Stabil-Stick Stabilizer with the paper side up. Score the paper inside the hoop using an awl, sewing pin or similar instrument. You should score deep enough to cut the paper on top but not the stabilizer below. Score around the hoop and then make an X through it. Use the pin to lift one of the corners in the center of the X then remove the paper from the backing. PHOTO 1 PHOTO - 01 2. Place your hoop on a at surface and apply your background fabric to the now sticky side of the stabilizer being sure to smooth out any wrinkles. Do not stretch your fabric--it should lie in its natural state. 3. Place your hoop on your machine then embroider and appliqué the rst section of the design. (In this example design CC83633) Note the colored X’s that sew last. These are noted as registration marks on your thread chart. We have color coded the registration marks as follows to make lining up the designs a cinch: • The red X’s denote that those X’s will line up with hooping number 2 • Blue X’s will line up with hooping number 3 • Green X’s will line up with hooping number 4. PHOTO 2 4. Remove the hoop from the machine. Use a water soluble pen to mark your X’s in case the stitches come out when you remove the backing. • Helpful Hint: To keep the X’s color coded, it is suggested that you write a small letter “r” next to red X’s, a small letter “b” next to the blue X’s and a small letter “g” next to the green X’s. Barrett now want to remove the excess backing. If you are using Tear-Away, gently tear the backing away from the stitches. You should always tear parallel to the stitches, not straight up from them. If you are using cutaway, carefully cut near the stitches. Always have your fabric facing you when cutting to avoid accidentally cutting through your background fabric. Set this aside for a moment. PHOTO - 04 PHOTO - 05 6. Hoop and score another piece of OESD Stabil-Stick Stabilizer as you did in step one. 7. Embroider only Color One of the second design (in this example design CC83634) directly onto just the stabilizer (no fabric). This will sew only X’s that will be used to line up with your rst design. PHOTO 4 PHOTO - 06 8. Remove the hoop from the machine but DO NOT unhoop your backing. Place the hoop onto a padded, gridded, pressing board, lining up the center of the hoop with the grids on the board. PHOTO 5 PHOTO - 07 9. Pick up the FIRST stitched design and place sewing pins directly through the centers of both of the red X’s. Align these pins with the stitched red X’s on the stabilizer (Second hooping). PHOTO 6 10. Adjust fabric so it lies at in hoop. (Use the grids on the board to keep fabric straight and on grain.) Smooth fabric onto the stabilizer then remove pins. PHOTO 7 PHOTO - 08 11. Put the hoop back on machine then embroider and appliqué the rest of the second design. PHOTO 8 12. This will sew only X’s that will line up with your already stitched rst two designs. PHOTO 10 16. Remove the hoop from the machine but DO NOT unhoop your backing. Place the hoop onto a padded, gridded, pressing board, lining up the center of the hoop with the grids on the board. 17. Place sewing pins in the blue X’s that are stitched on the portion of the two designs already stitched on the fabric. (Use the grids on the board to keep fabric straight and on grain.) Smooth fabric onto the stabilizer then remove pins. 19. Put the hoop back on machine then embroider and appliqué the rest of the third design. PHOTO 11 20. Remove the hoop from the machine and use a water soluble pen to mark the X’s (if applicable) just as you did in steps 4 and 12. In this example, we marked the green X’s in hooping number one therefore wedo not have X’s to mark at this time. 21. Remove the fabric from the hoop and remove the stabilizer from the fabric just as you did in steps 5 and 13. only X’s that will line up with your rst three designs. PHOTO 12 24. Remove the hoop from the machine but DO NOT unhoop your backing. Place the hoop onto a padded, gridded, pressing board, lining up the center of the hoop with the grids on the board. 25. Place a pin into each of the green X registration marks of the FIRST THREE hoopings and align the pins with the new marks on the stabilizer. 22. Hoop and score one last piece of OESD StabilStick Stabilizer as you did in step one. 26. Adjust fabric so it lies at in hoop. (Use the grids on the board to keep fabric straight and on grain.) For instance, if a design has 4 hoopings, you must sew design CC83633 then CC83634 then CC83635 then CC83636 in that order. • These georgeous sh were designed in such a way to be forgiving. When lining up multiple hoops, if you are off a small amount you’ll probably never even notice it. • If you do get off by an amount that is noticeable, refer to the next heading and cover your aw with glitz or beads.
