each listening panel uses a different randomization
Before starting the test, the listeners should be given instructions for performing the subjective test. An
example set of instructions for the P.835 test are presented below. The instructions may be modified
to allow for variations in laboratory data-gathering apparatus.

In this speech rating experiment each trial will involve three sentences and you will give a rating for
each sentence.

For the first sentence in each trial you will be asked to attend only to the speech signal and rate how
natural, or conversely, how degraded, the speech signal sounds to you. You will use the rating scale
shown in the figure below to register your ratings of the speech signal. Your task will be to choose the
numbered phrase from the list below that best describes your opinion of the SPEECH SIGNAL
ALONE and then enter the corresponding number on your keyboard.
