- 18 communications, which should handle easily the low traffic expected. It would provide a basic level of service, appropriate to the size of the organisation. The Pangpac service contains built-in redundancy against lines failing, and includes PTC assistance in the event of problems. 4.5.5 Conclusions on Communications If the NPF intended to go heavily into remote communications, e.g. having 10 or more offices on line, in the next few years, the Coopers and Lybrand proposal would be worth while, offering as it does the advantages of a well-managed and flexible network, with technical expertise on tap. Given the NPF's current size and plans, however, its use of communications is built up only slowly, and the Pangpac option offers the best value for money. It would be worth keeping in touch also with the National Computer Centre on communications issues, as within another 18 months or so they may be planning a Government X.25 network.
