IMPORTANT USER ASSISTANCE INFORMATION
BEFORE USING PERIOWAVE™,
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
CAUTION – USE OF CONTROLS OR ADJUSTMENTS OR PERFORMANCE OF PROCEDURES OTHER THAN THOSE SPECIFIED HEREIN MAY RESULT IN
HAZARDOUS RADIATION EXPOSURE
The laser base station is equipped with the following laser radiation warning labels:
• Use only the power supply that was provided, otherwise you may
damage your PERIOWAVE™ system and invalidate your warranty;
similarly, only approved PERIOWAVE™ accessories are to be used
with the PERIOWAVE™ system.
• The PERIOWAVE™ system is NOT waterproof. Do not submerge any
part of the PERIOWAVE™ base station or main power
supply in water.
• The PERIOWAVE™ system is designed for indoor use ONLY.
• It is recommended that you charge the batteries for 4 hours before
the first use.
• The PERIOWAVETM system has no compatibility with other
medical devices.
• Only approved PERIOWAVE™ parts may be connected to the system
(including power supply, base station, battery, and footswitch). No
other device may be connected to any of the sockets without prior
written permission from the manufacturer. Non-compliance with
these instructions may damage equipment, void any warranty, and
be dangerous.

• The light-emitting aperture is at the distal end of the handpiece.
• When the laser base station is not in use, it should be protected
against unqualified use, for example by removal of the key from the
key control switch (Figure 9).
• Before performing any cleaning or maintenance procedures on
the laser base station, fiber optics cable, or handpiece, the power
supply connector located on the rear panel of the laser base station
should be disconnected (Figure 9).
• Do not use any product to clean the fiber optic components of the
PERIOWAVE™ system other than those supplied with the system.
The use of any other product may affect the transparency of the
optics, causing a reduction of the laser power delivered to the
treatment site and a reduction of clinical efficacy.
• This device is not suitable for use in the presence of
flammable mixtures.
• Do not modify or alter any component of the PERIOWAVE™ system.
• The operator and patient should always wear laser safety eyewear
when using the PERIOWAVE™ system. Two pairs of PERIOWAVE™
laser safety eyeglasses are included.
• Use only the PERIOWAVE™ treatment kits (PW3100 and PW3200)
containing the photosensitizing solution provided with the
PERIOWAVE™ system. This solution is specially formulated to be
effective with the operating laser wavelength, power, and exposure
time.
• Do not operate the PERIOWAVE™ system without the
handpiece attached.
• Do not autoclave any component other than the handpiece; this
may damage materials and/or components.
• Do not operate the PERIOWAVE™ system without the lightdiffusing tip attached to the handpiece, except during
the test procedure.
• Do not reuse any component intended and identified for
single use only.
