Level 1: Automatic and Manual Mode Automatic and manual modes share a common Level 1 of the menu tree. This level provides the basic operational status of the receiver, including the currently tuned frequency and beacon. To access level 2 in either automatic or manual mode from Level 1, press the key. Frequency Frequency displays the operating frequency in kHz Identification Identification displays either the name or the beacon identifier of the station tuned. Performance Performance displays the number of valid decoded RTCM messages as a percentage of the messages received correctly over a given period of time. Signal to Noise Ratio Signal to noise ratio displays the ratio between the desired signal and the unwanted noise at the selected frequency, expressed in decibels (dB). The VDO DGPS-Receiver requires an SNR of better than 7 dB in order to achieve a lock. This signal to noise ratio corresponds to a bit error rate (BER) of less than 1:1000. A higher SNR is more desirable than a lower one. Signal Strength Signal strength, expressed in dB, is a numeric re presentation of the near noise, far noise, and field strength of the received signal at the selected frequency. Level 2: Automatic Mode Auto Srch Select Automatic Beacon Search mode to place the receiver into automatic operation. In this mode, both the frequency and MSK rate are selected by the receiver automatically, to provide the best per formance. In this operating mode, the receiver will conduct a Global Search where the VDO DGPS71
