CHAPTER 5: DISEASE INFORMATION With more treatments being developed and put into practice every day, it is difficult to find time to research the latest treatments of choice, even for the most common of ailments. Disease information available in Healthcare Series is loosely categorized by treatment type: General Medicine and Emergency Medicine. The DISEASEDEX™ General Medicine System supports disease management with unbiased, evidence-based information and identification of best practices for treating diseases. It lets clinicians quickly reference the most current treatment of choice at the point of care to help minimize errors, prevent unnecessary tests or procedures, reduce treatment costs, and improve patient outcomes. Delivers both detailed etiology and treatment information, along with summary overviews for each medical condition providing recommendations for appropriate care. The DISEASEDEX™ Emergency Medicine System is designed to assist in the rapid, effective diagnosis and treatment of patients in acute care settings. Evidence-based, it instantly answers the “what, when, and how” of emergency medicine. Information includes clinical presentation, laboratory and diagnostic findings, and therapeutic modalities. Provides an ongoing cumulative review of international literature discussing emergency and acute care medicine and includes clinical review, clinical abstracts, and prehospital care protocols. The Clinical Checklist™ System is available to all DISEASEDEX subscribers and is the "must do" "never do" database. It is a compilation of the most pertinent patient care interventions on commonly encountered conditions that should always or never be done. The information is action-oriented and concise and is based on nationally recognized quality standards and the highest rated medical evidence. Each checklist item contains graded recommendation and evidence information. These evidence ratings embed evidence-based medicine into clinical operations, and ultimately, maximize reimbursement by ensuring that clinical decisions are in compliance with the latest national quality standards and evidence-based practices. ENHANCED DISEASEDEX CONTENT AND NAVIGATION In an effort to provide you with the disease information that meets your needs and answers your questions, we conducted extensive research, held multiple clinical focus groups, and conducted surveys to understand your information needs. A resounding majority stated that you wanted two levels of content: brief and detailed. 1. Provide the most critical information in the first level. 2. Give the ability to click to second-level content for additional information on tests, treatment options, and other valuable clinical information. ©2009 Thomson Reuters. All rights reserved.
