Agilent Infiniium 90000 Series Oscilloscopes Programmer's Reference 5 Message Communication and System Functions Protocols 92 This chapter describes the operation of oscilloscopes that operate in compliance with the IEEE 488.2 (syntax) standard. It is intended to give you enough basic information about the IEEE 488.2 standard to successfully program the oscilloscope. You can find additional detailed information about the IEEE 488.2 standard in ANSI/IEEE Std 488.2- 1987, "IEEE Standard Codes, Formats, Protocols, and Common Commands." This oscilloscope series is designed to be compatible with other Agilent Technologies IEEE 488.2 compatible instruments. Oscilloscopes that are compatible with IEEE 488.2 must also be compatible with IEEE 488.1 (GPIB bus standard); however, IEEE 488.1 compatible oscilloscopes may or may not conform to the IEEE 488.2 standard. The IEEE 488.2 standard defines the message exchange protocols by which the oscilloscope and the computer will communicate. It also defines some common capabilities that are found in all IEEE 488.2 oscilloscopes.
