Abstract In this work I present a multi-adaptive finite element method for initial value problems for ordinary differential equations, including an a posteriori estimate of the error. The method is multi-adaptive in the sense that the resolution of the time discretization is chosen individually for each component of the system of ordinary differential equations, based on an estimation of the error. The method has been successfully implemented in the Tanganyika library, available for download. Included are a few example computations made with this library, as well as instructions for downloading and using the package.
