DRIVE AXLE TIRES Alternate Lug Wear APPEARANCE Alternate lugs worn to different tread depths around tire circumference. May be every second lug, every third, etc... or a combination thereof. PROBABLE CAUSE(S) Mismatched inflation pressures or tire diameters in a dual assembly and certain conditions such as pick up and delivery operations and variations in loads. Is accentuated by slow rate of tire wear and by worn or poorly maintained suspension components or axle misalignment. EXAMPLE PHOTO & FIGURE ACTION TIRE VEHICLE OPERATIONS Continue to run out unless tread depth variations become severe. Rotate to faster wearing position, i.e., single screw tractor or rear drive axle. Check for worn or damaged components and axle misalignment. Review tire maintenance practices and tread design selection. 126
