It’s the law In a vehicle, children whose sitting height is less than 63 cm (between the seat and the top of the head) must be secured in an appropriate car seat, adapted to their weight and height. Offenders face a fine of $80 to $100 and three demerit points. In a taxi, if you are unable to use a child safety seat, children must wear the seat belt as soon as they are able to maintain an upright position. Just having the seat is not enough: you also have to properly choose it, install it and secure your child in it. Whether your children are big or small, their safety in the car is your responsibility. Did you know? Every year in Québec, over 1,000 child passengers age 9 or under are victims of road accidents. When child safety seats are used correctly, the risk of death or serious injury is reduced by up to 70%. 2 27342_SAAQ_BrochAttachez2015_ENG.indd 2 15-07-16 7:03 AM
