1 Introduction 1 Introduction 1.1 Background Electronics Systems (ES), a division at the University of Linköping, is running a project with the purpose of creating a synthesizable instruction comparisable version of the Motorola digital signal processor DSP 56002 (figure 1). This project can be divided into several blocks. One of these blocks is the somewhat detached Port C, which constitutes a serial communication interface to the surrounding world.
