APPENDIX 2. The list of the averaging modes
A mechanism of spectrum averaging makes possible detection of the stationary processes at the
background of disturbances and noise as well as detection of short spectral peaks.
The following types of “averaging” parameter are possible:
• Instant. Instantaneous spectrum that is without averaging. Information about all previous spectra
is lost.
• x2, x4, x8, x16, x32, x64. Linear averaging of the spectrum. An arithmetical mean spectrum is
computed by N last implementations, where N = 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64. The bigger N results in longer
accumulation of the changes and stronger decrease of the random harmonics in the spectrum. N
instantaneous spectra participate in creation of the resulting spectrum.
• Peak. Peak averaging. It represents continuous memorizing of the harmonic maximal levels.
Unlimited number of the instantaneous spectra is involved in creation of the resulting spectra until
reset of the averaging results has been done. Such averaging allows detecting of the rare spectral
peaks during a long time period.
• Peak х8, х16, х32. Quasi-peak averaging of the spectrum. Signals newly appeared are displayed
as peak ones while disappearing signals are averaged.
