Here the operation of the MCA can be switched between Pulse-Height Analysis (PHA) and Multi-Channel Scaling (MCS) modes. PHA mode is the most commonly used mode in traditional energy spectrum acquisition tasks. Figure 6 - “Settings” dialog, where the various MCA parameters can be easily set. Here the settings for PHA acquisition mode are shown By selecting PHA or MCS, the corresponding tab for Preset and MCA settings becomes available. Acquisition preset settings This section is used to specify the preset for the data acquisition. Several presets for data acquisition are built into the bMCA: 1. Acquisition preset on time. 2. Acquisition preset on counts. 3. Acquisition preset on dual mode – time or counts. 4. “Acquire forever” mode. Acquisition Preset on Time On this preset the device will acquire data until the time (in seconds) indicated in the corresponding field is reached. The drop-down box next to it allows the user to choose between Live Time (LT) and Real Time (RT) measurements. Acquisition Preset on Counts On this preset the device will acquire data until the amount of Figure 7 – Acquisition preset settings section counts indicated in the corresponding field is reached. This count recording can be specified within a region in the MCA. The limits of the region are specified with the “Lower channel” and “Upper channel”, see Figure 7. In other words, under 15
