The implanted device should be removed
before burial or cremation. In some countries,
removal of battery-powered implantable
devices is required before burial because of
environmental concerns. Also, the device
should be removed before cremation. The
cremation process causes the battery to
explode. Explanted devices should not be
resterilized or reimplanted.
