SDS Sequel User Manual
Getting Started
Logging In
When you start Sequel you will see the Login screen. This will prompt you for your
username/password, the database server, and the database itself.
The default is that Sequel will use your Windows user details to save you from typing
in a username/password. For more information about this please see the Technical/
Active Directory section. You will not normally need to enter a username and
password manually. However, you may be occasionally prompted to enter a
password. This will happen the first time you use Sequel, and if your password
expires.
The “Database” field should be filled in automatically. If it is not then it is likely the
“Server” field is not correct. If you don’t know what it should be, please contact your
IT administrator who will be able to confirm what the server name is. In the
screenshot above, the server is called “localhost” which is the initial default.
Overwrite this with the name of your server and press the <Tab> key to prompt
Sequel to refresh its connection. The database field should then be filled in. The
standard name for the database is “Working” (not “Demo” as in the screenshot
above).
When you click the “Connect” button, Sequel will check to see if you have a valid
licence. If you do not (e.g. the first time you use the program) then it will ask you if
you would like to be added as a full user. If you click “Yes” then it will ask you to enter
a password. This password is what you will need to use to log in, if you are not using
your normal computer, e.g. working at a colleague’s computer. This process will
create a user entry in the Sequel database using the information from your Windows
profile. You do not need to do anything further, so it will take you to the Start Page.
It is also possible that your system administrator has already created a user entry for
