Tyres
Engine Oil
Summer Maintenance
Did you know: Under-inflated tyres cost you money?
Your engine uses more power to push a vehicle with soft tyres,
causing your fuel consumption bill to increase considerably.
Use the correct grade of oil as recommended in the Owners Manual.
Don’t miss your routine oil changes. Oil is the life blood of any engine
and a good quality oil will offer superior engine protection.
•
•
To check the oil level yourself you can use the following guide:
Make sure that your car is ready for the summer. You are
bound to be getting out and about far more often when the
winter months have passed, so be certain of trouble free
motoring. Don’t sacrifice the joys of a holiday for the sake of
a service!
It is not only winter weather conditions that can add wear and
tear to your vehicle. As summer approaches be sure to contact
your local Nissan Dealer for Summer service advice.
• Car Battery: Warm weather can shorten the life of your
battery as the battery fluids can begin to evaporate. Be sure
that the fluid levels are topped up for the summer months.
•
•
Tyre pressure should be checked at least once a month.
Tyres should be kept properly inflated according to the correct
tyre pressure for the vehicle. Tyre pressure should be checked
when the tyre is cool, and remember to check the spare as well.
The Nissan maintenance schedule requires that all Nissan models
have tyres rotated every 6,000 miles (10,000 km). This will extend
the life of your tyres.
Look out for uneven or excessive tread tyre wear. Check your tyre
pressure (tyre rubber will expand or contract according to weather
conditions.)

Brakes
Under the Bonnet
How do you know if your braking system is worn?
•
•
•
•
If the vehicle is taking longer to stop than normal, or if the pedal feels spongy, you should contact
your nearest Nissan Dealer immediately.
Park the vehicle on a level surface.
Allow the engine to warm up.
Turn the engine off. This will allow the oil to drain back.
Remove the oil dip stick and clean. Put it back.
Remove again and check the oil level. It should be between the
H and L marks. If the oil level is below the L mark then add the
recommended oil as stated in your Owner’s Manual
Inside your Nissan
The ventilation air filter prevents dirt, dust and pollen from entering the air ventilation system of the
vehicle. How do you know if the filter is blocking?
•
•
•
•
Is your windscreen taking longer to demist?
Is your vent
air flow restricted?
Refer to your Service Schedule to find out the required frequency of necessary replacement of
the pollen filter.
•
•
Air Conditioning
If your vehicle is equipped with Air Conditioning, use it in the winter. It acts as a dehumidifier when
warm air is selected leading to a healthier environment within the cabin. It will also quickly clear
fogged up windows in winter weather conditions.
•
For your comfort ensure that the Air Conditioning filters are regularly cleaned. Recharge air
conditioner gases periodically to maximise performance.
Fuel
•
•
Use fuel that is recommended in your Owner’s Manual. A lower level octane content will result
in poor performance and increased operating costs.
Do not run the fuel tank too close to empty. Sediments can collect at the bottom and
condensation build-up could cause problems in the fuel.
The winter months can mean extra wear and tear for
your Nissan. Remember that keeping your car well
maintained will guarantee warm, secure and reliable
motoring. For your Nissan recommended Winter
Service check contact your local Nissan Dealer.
Check Fluid Levels
Check radiator for accumulated dirt (insects / leaves).
Inspect hoses for cracks, deformations or loose connections that might lead to overheating.
Make sure engine drive belts are not frayed, worn, cracked or oily.
Ventilation Air Filter (Pollen Filter)
•
Winter Maintenance Make life easy Be prepared
•
Check that your seat belts operate smoothly.
Be sure all gauges (e.g. fuel, oil etc) indicate normal levels.
Check brakes for smooth operation – pedals should be firm.
Check for steering wheel vibration or strange noises. If the
vehicle pulls to one side have your tyres and alignment checked
by your Nissan Dealer.
Check the windscreen wipers and washers are working.
Ensure that air / heat comes out of the defroster outlets properly
and at sufficient levels.
Remember clean, cloth polished windows will demist more quickly
than hand wiped dirty windows.
Ask your Nissan Dealer to pay particular attention to
brakes, tyres, defroster, radiator, windscreen wipers,
head lights, hazard lights,
indicators, ignition and
exhaust. We advise that you keep an emergency kit in
the boot of your car, containing the following items (all
available from your local Nissan Dealer):
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
First Aid Kit
Ice Scraper
Warning Triangle
Towing Cable
Life Pack (hand torch plus life hammer)
Jump Leads
Safety Vest
Map Reading Lamp
Bulb & Fuse Kits
De-icer
Outside your Nissan
Top Tips:
•
•
At the beginning of the Winter season spray some lube oil into each door lock. This prevents the
key cylinders from getting a little stiff as they age.
•
Remember to have the RAC help line number to hand should you encounter any problems with
your vehicle.
1800 264 264 In the event of vehicle breakdown contact the RAC first!
Then call the relevant Nisan Dealer.
Inspect tyres for damage, cuts or excessive wear. Test pressure and adjust if necessary and
also check for missing or loose wheel nuts.
• Make sure headlights, taillights, brake lights and signal lights operate properly.
To keep your Nissan looking its best by we recommend regular polishing and valeting: Ask your local
dealer about our range of products.
Regular garage brush washing is not recommended as it can cause some colours to fade. Get your
Nissan professionally polished to renew colour protection.
