Purpose of Establishment
Osaka International House II (the House) was established with the purpose of fostering a global
understanding and mutual exchange among international students and local residents. It
achieves such objectives through the provision of accommodations to international students
and support towards student life, including academic support. The House also offers
opportunities for mutual exchange among student residents and the conduct of various
exchange programs amongst the many other students, local residents and volunteers.

2㧚Qualification and procedures
䋨䋱䋩Qualification
ԘStudents enrolled at a university (including a graduate school), a junior college, a college of
technology(must be 4th or 5th grade), or a professional training college(specialized training
colleges postsecondary course). Or students with equal grade as mentioned above
ԙOutstanding students who are eager to study
ԚStudents must have a good understanding of international exchanges, be in good health and
well adapted to a communal life.
ԛStudents who have a document of recommendation from his/her university
Ԝ ̌ College Student ̍ visa status holder or students with the equal grade as the
former.(international students only)
䋨䋲䋩Period of residence
The maximum period of residence shall not exceed two years; the term of living in other
associated Houses and/or Tokyo International Exchange Center included.
If the period described oňResidence permit̍is less than two years, then the date is applied.
When residents are disqualified from residency (i.e. expelling from the school), period of
residence expires on the day specified.

̌Housing Application̍, ID photo (3×2.5cm), Student ID (or certificate of compliance),
academic transcript, a document of recommendation from the school and the duplicate of

situations, who is not a student, and who is based in Japan. (Ex. The guiding professor at

ԙSelection of residents
Applicants are required to submit documents and to holding interviews.
ԚResidential permits
The House Office will contact the student who has been permitted to reside in the House. The
student needs to submiťPledge̍anďApplication for furnishings provided̍at the office on
the 2nd floor. ̌Residence permit̍will be issued later.
ԛMoving in
Move in on the informed day. As the room key will be handed over on the day. One needs to
inform the office one’s planned date of moving in.
ԜOpening a bank account
Rent and other charges for each month are charged directly to residents’ bank account.
Residents need to open a bank account at the bank below. Consult a staff at the office on the
2nd floor, in case a resident need to know more clearly about the automatic bill-payment
system.

ԝRevocation
Residential permits will be revoked if applicants apply in any case of below:
࡮A falsehood is contained in the documents the applicant submitted to apply for the House.
࡮Failure to move in by the specified date without proper reasons
࡮Failure to pay entrance fee and other charges by the specified date
䋨䋴䋩Moving out
Residents must pay rent and utility charges and return the items that the residents received
at moving in (i.e. the room key, a phone card, an emergency survival kit bag, a telephone,
and, a manual file) to the office. Clean up the room well and reposts all the furniture. If the
staff finds any damage to the facilities on the inspection, the resident will be asked to
compensate for such damage.
ԘIn cases for personal reasons or the end of permitted period;
SubmiťRequest to vacate the House̍two weeks prior to the actual date of leaving.
In cases of reaching the end of permitted period, vacate the room by the valid day.
ԙIn cases of disqualified from residency;
SubmiťRequest to vacate the House̍immediately and vacate the room within one week from
the date disqualified from residency.
ԚExpulsion from the House
The Director of the House may order residents to expulsion from the House, if residents do
one or more of following acts:
࡮Failure to pay rent and utility charges for three months or more.
࡮Withdrawal from the university.
࡮To allow any guests to stay overnight in the House.
࡮Intentionally damaging facilities, installations and/or items of the House.
࡮Violating the rules and regulations set by JASSO.
࡮Acting disorderly to an extent which seriously upsets the atmosphere of the House.
࡮Regarded as unsuitable for leading a communal life in the House for reasons of health and
hygiene as a result of illnesses and/or other concerns.
࡮Acting in a manner, which significantly disturbs the operation and management of the
House.In such cases, the resident must vacate the room within one week from the date of
occurring.

䋨䋱䋩Charging for rent
The office will charge 29,800yen per month for the rent. The rent is calculated at a daily rate
in the month of moving in/out. The rent is charged for the period during a resident absents
because of his/her own personal reasons such as staying overnight elsewhere, traveling or
temporarily going back home.
At the time of moving in, extra fee is charged: entrance fee of 29,800yen, a bed pad/linen fee
of 5,600yen and a shower curtain fee of 2,000yen, totaling 37,400yen.
䋨䋲䋩Charging for utilities
Utilities charges are calculated from the water/electricity meters installed in each room in
one month. They will be charged the next month residents used.
䋨䋳䋩Payment method
The office will post the bill in the mailbox at the beginning of each month. The bill amount
includes rent; utility charges and the bank transfer charge of 105yen.
The bill amount will be transferred from resident’s bank to the office on the tenth day of each
month (or the following working day, if the tenth day falls on a Saturday, Sunday or a national
holiday). Ensure to deposit enough money into the account to cover the bill at least the day
before the date of bank transfer.
* Only first month of moving in, pay into the office account, not by bank transfer.
* Various charges paid are non-refundable.
㧠㧚Instructions and notes for residents
䋨䋱䋩Living in the House
ԘNon smoking in any area inside the building. Smoking is only permitted close to the ashtray
on the balcony in the 4th floor. Be sure to extinguish cigarette/cigar completely.
ԙResidents are not permitted to allow other individuals to stay overnight.
ԚTalking late at night and making any loud noises disturb not only other residents but also
neighbors.
ԛNo pets
ԜThe bringing in of hazardous materials, or items which smell unpleasant are not permitted.

䋨䋲䋩Room Occupation
ԘIt is prohibited to use any items causing fire such as portable cooking stoves and kerosene
heaters in the individual room.
ԙNEVER leave personal items in hallways. If personal belongings cannot be stored in the
individual room, use the storage room or consult at the office.
ԚIt is prohibited to remodel the room. NEVER use nails or adhesive tape on any part of the
room, whatsoever.
ԛRefrain from making loud noises or unnecessarily vibrating the floor or the walls.
ԜThe room’s shower unit
Hot water for the shower is supplied via an electric water heater. If the hot water, which is
heated during the “hot water accumulation hours” of 23:00 – 7:00, is used in totality (150
liters), there will be not supplied hot water anymore until the next accumulation hours.
ԝCleaning of the room
࡮Keep the room clean at all times and ensure to clean under the bed and furniture.
࡮Clean the air-conditioner filter regularly with water. If it is unclean, it could result in
malfunctioning of the air-conditioning system or excessive electricity bills.
࡮To clean the shower room unit drain, remove the screws at the bottom of the bathroom sink

ԞPrevention of condensation, mould and mites
Particularly during the winter months, condensation is easily formed on windows and if not
dealt with, mould will appear. If mould appears, it creates ideal conditions for mites. Therefore,
please ensure the room is well ventilated during winter months and remove condensation as
often as possible.
ԟUsing balconies
NEVER put any goods on balcony. Balcony is an evacuation passage in an emergency. In
particular, NEVER place anything on top of or directly below the evacuation ladders.
Clotheshorse and clotheslines must be placed lest they should disturb the evacuation
passage (see photos below).

䋨䋳䋩Notes on the use of communal facilities on the 4th floor
Facilities on the 4th floor are for fostering mutual interaction among residents. Use the
facilities usefully, following rules below:
ԘCommunal facilities on the 4th floor
࡮Switch off all lights, air-conditioner and fans after each use, to save energy.
࡮Common area is open 6:30-23:30.Residents can use facilities during the hours.
࡮Smoking is ONLY permitted on the balcony where ashtrays are provided.
࡮Any garbage must be disposed. Any tableware, food and/or drink left around the facilities
may be disposed of without prior notice.
࡮Never behave in a manner as to disturb other residents.
࡮Wipe clean all tables after each use and also clean the floors.
Communal Lounge
ԙRegarding induction cooker and microwave oven, washing machine, clothes dryer
Do not insert coins other than those that are specified. The inserting of deformed coins could
lead to malfunction. When using the clothes dryer, ensure to ventilate the room by opening
the window.
ԚKitchen
Clean the kitchen after use. Do not dump cooking oil into the sink.
Each resident must take responsibilities for their own tableware, rice cooker, spices,
seasonings, etc., and NEVER use those of other residents without their permission.
Dispose of leftovers immediately. Leaving leftovers around is unhygienic.
There are shelves for storing personal items. Use the shelf with the same number as the
resident’s room number.
ԛLaundry (washing machine/clothes dryer)
Instructions are provided on each machine. Finishing washing/drying, remove clothes from
the machine promptly.

ԙStorage Room
There is a storage room on each floor for storing luggage.
Storage rooms are available to open between 8:30 and 22:30 with the presence of an office
staff or a security guard. When residents need to use the storage room, come to the office on
the 2nd floor or the security guard’s office. Never use the storage for valuables.
䋨䋵䋩Telephone At the time of moving in, office staff will hand a telephone card to enable to use the
telephone in the individual room.
Credit the card by using the telephone pre-payment machine (to credit the personal room
phone) installed on the 4th floor prior to using the phone.
When the telephone card runs out of charged money, the connection will be broken,
immediately.
Consumption tax for using the phone will be deducted from the phone card at the end of the
month. Even if there is some balance left on the card, the resident may not be able to use it.
䋨䋶䋩The safekeeping of the room key and telephone card
ԘThe room key and the telephone card must NOT be lent to others.
When vacate the room, return the room key and the telephone card to the office.
ԙIf the room key or the telephone card becomes lost, the office will re-issue a replacement.
(Fee: 1,000 yen)
ԚDo not allow the room key and the telephone card to come into contact with magnetic objects.
䋨䋷䋩Entry into the room by office staffs
If office staffs have the need to enter individual room for a legitimate reason, such as
checking the facilities, the office will notify it in advance. Note that in an emergency, it may
be necessary to enter a room without giving advanced notice.
䋨䋸䋩Disposing of garbage
Ԙ Garbage must be separated as follows, placed in clear bags and disposed in specified
containers on the first floor. No designated day

ԘBe wary of theft. Always lock the room door, even when staying in the room and ensure the
door is locked when leaving the room even for brief periods.
