If appliance is not working as it should, or has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors or dropped in water, take it to a service center. • Do not pull or carry the vacuum by the cord, or use the cord as a handle. Do not close a door on cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the appliance over its cord. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces. • Do not unplug the vacuum by pulling on the cord. To unplug, grasp the plug, not the cord. • Do not handle plug or appliance with wet hands. • Do not put any object into vacuum openings. Do not operate with any opening blocked: keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything that may reduce air flow. • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts. • Do not use to pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes. • Do not use without dirt filter and filters in place. • Turn off all controls before unplugging. • Use extra care when cleaning on stairs. • Do not use to clean up flammable or combustible liquids such as gasoline. Do not use the vacuum in areas where such liquids may be present. • Store your cleaner indoors in a cool, dry area. • Do not use extension cords or plug into an electrical outlet with inadequate current carrying capacity. • Avoid vacuuming up sharp objects. • Always turn this appliance off before cleaning filters or removing the bottom plate for maintenance. • Unplug electrical appliances before vacuuming them. SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS! To reduce the risk of electrical shock, this appliance has a polarized plug with one blade wider than the other. This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to replace the outlet. Attaching Handle Attaching Hose (Optional) Put the hose on the Hose Hook and insert the crevice tool into the slot of the Air Guide. Push the hose until it is locked in position. HOSE HOOK HOSE HOLDER 1 Slide handle firmly onto the top of the cleaner. CREVICE TOOL AIR GUIDE 2 SELECTOR KNOB Connect the Hose Holder to the handle and tighten the screw securely with the screwdriver. HANDLE QUICK RELEASE CORD HOOK POWER CORD HOSE HOOK The Power Cord Securing the Cord 1 2 HOSE HOLDER ❇ Insert the power cord into the clip on the handle. Wrap excess cord around the cord storage hooks to prevent the cord from dragging on the ground during cleaning or storage. The plug has a slot on one side to secure it to the cord. HOSE ❇ EXHAUST FILTER CREVICE TOOL ❇ Releasing the Cord Rotate the upper cord hook downward for quick cord release. Wind cord back onto hook when full length is not needed. STAIR CLEANING HANDLE SELECTOR KNOB ❇ DIRT CUP CORD HOOK BUTTON ❇ NOZZLE ❈ The plug type may be different depending on the models. Features maked❇ may vary according to model. 3 DJ68-00054K 2002.1.30 11:22 AM ˘ ` 5 How to use ON-OFF switch (Optional) Vacuuming power can be adjusted to suit different situations using the 3step switch. LOW ( I ) = For delicate fabrics, like curtains. HIGH(II) = For difficult floors and heavily soiled carpets. OFF (O) = Vacuum cleaner switch off To turn cleaner ON(I), depress switch toward front, To the OFF(O), depress switch toward back. Stair Cleaning Handle Use the convenience handle for easy stair cleaning or better control in some areas. Using the Nozzle (Optional) Turn the Selector Knob left or right and align the arrow to the nozzle mark on the Air Guide. Using the Crevice Tool (Optional) Turn the Selector Knob left or right and align the arrow to the Crevice Tool mark on the Air Guide. Remove the Crevice Tool from the Air Guide slot and use as desired. 4 DJ68-00054K 2002.1.30 11:22 AM ˘ ` 6 Maintenance Be sure to empty the dust cup and clean the dirt filter after each use to keep vacuum cleaner operating efficiently. The inlet filter must be securely attached before using. Failure to replace the inlet filter will allow dirt to enter motor section which will damage the vacuum cleaner. Emptying the Dirt Cup 1 Push button up and pull out dirt cup. Remove dirt filter from dirt cup and empty contents. 2 Dirt Filter Dirt Cup Button 3 Align and push dirt filter into top of dirt cup. Be sure dirt filter is inside cup and seated on the ribs. 4 5 Slide the top of dirt cup into place and press the dirt cup downward. Push button up and lock dirt cup into place. If filters need further cleaning, launder them in warm water using a mild detergent. Air dry thoroughly before replacing filters into cleaner. if filters are damaged or extremely soiled replace them. Dirt Filter 1 2 Pull open the filter compartment. Peel the filter off of the grid. The Inlet Filter The inlet filter removes dust and dirt from the air that circulates in the vacuum. The inlet filter is not reusable, and should be checked once a year for replacement.
