distinguishing feature of the tutorial
problem, from the ground response
standpoint, is the presence of the strong
impedance contrast at the boundary
between the soft silty clay and the stiff
clay. This impedance contrast causes
large strains near the bottom of the soft
silty clay layer that lead to low shear
moduli in the equivalent linear model.
