 The figure above shows another possible mixer configuration to play 6 channel analog in a 7.1 auditorium. Note that A5 drives Ls and Lrs, each at 71% level. Similarly, A6 drives Rs and Rrs at 71%. This results in the typical 5.1 Ls and Rs array shapes that go down the side wall and part way across the back wall. The use of 71% instead of 100% reduces the drive into the Ls speakers and the Lrs speakers by 3dB (corresponding to half power). Since two speaker arrays (side and rear) are now being driven with the same signal at -­‐3dB, they combine in the auditorium at 0dB. If Ls and Lrs are each calibrated at 82dB, driving both 3dB lower will also yield 82dB. The mixer settings above drive the first 6 outputs with the 6 channel analog inputs and drive the last two auditorium outputs (Lrs and Rrs) with N/S L and N/S R. This configuration gives up the use of the non-­‐sync input and uses it to play the rear surround channels. This has proved useful in theaters that have 7.1 analog audio available. Page 54
