The ATEX version is in the compliance and certified according to the EC-directive 94/9/EC. This explosion proof version is certified where there is a ATEX certified due to the possible presence of combustible dust in grain storage facilities. The GW200 is not in itself ATEX certified but the system can still be used where ATEX certified equipment is required by the use of the GWBA-01 safety barrier. The GW200 is in the safe area and the GWBA-01 in between the sensor line and GW200 hand instrument. The GW200 can read and present temperatures from up to 32 sensors at a time. These sensors can be divided between several sensor lines or spears. More than 32 sensors can be read but this requires more than one acquisition point. The acquisition point is simply a 3.5mm standard telephone plug connected to the sensors which jacks directly into the GW200. There are no requirements for an external power supply. All power that is needed is taken from the batteries inside the GW200 during the readout. 1. OVERVIEW The GW200 is a portable handheld temperature indicator that is part of the G r a i n -Wa t c h p r o d u c t r a n g e f o r temperature and humidity measurement in grain storage facilities. The GW200 is intended for facilities with few sensors where the temperature is manually sampled on regular intervals. The GW200 is very simple to operate, just plug it in to the acquisition point from the sensor-lines or senso- spears, press a key, wait a few seconds and instantly read the highest temperature on the large, easy to read, backlit display. The GW200 interfaces to the same type of sensor lines and sensor spears that is used for the on-line, PC based, GrainWatch system. This means that upgrading to an automatic system in the future is an easy step where the existing sensor components can be used. The Grain-Watch “Sensor-lines” and “Sensor-Spears” are available in both a standard version (NON-ATEX) and an 1.1 GW200 and sensor lines for silos Junction Box JB-05 GW200 Sensor Lines hanging down with sensor points evenly distributed throughout the entire length of the silo. When the GW200 is used for silo storages, it usually interfaces to GWSL1000/2000 sensorlines which are suspended in the ceiling of the silo and AB LIROS ELECTRONIC 1 A719A01 GW200manualENG071115.cdr for one acquisition point, the sensor-lines have to be of different types regarding the programming of the sequence number in the sensors. This is because the GW200 sees multiple lines as one long, contiguous sensor line. Sensor-line 1 will then for example be equipped with sensors 1-5, sensor-line 2 with sensors 610, sensor-line 3 with sensors 11-15 and so on. All sensor-lines do not have to be equipped with the same number of sensors, though. The number of sensor-lines that can be used for one acquisition point is limited by the following factors: p The maximum number of sensors is limited to 32. p The maximum cable length, including the length for the lines, is limited to 200m. p No more than 6 sensor-lines should be used for one acquisition point. When more than one sensor-line is used 1.2 GW200 and sensor-spears for flat storage silos length of the spear is limited to 100m. p No more than 10 sensor-spears should be used for one acquisition point. Just as for the sensor-lines, the sensorspears have to be of different types regarding the programming of the sequence number in its sensors when more than one spear is to be used for one single acquisition point. This means that sensor-spears for different acquisition points can not be mixed. This is a generalisation for the use of sensor-spears in flat storage. Depending on the layout of the facility and how the grain is filled and emptied, short sensorlines could also be used in flat storage instead of sensor-spears. When the GW200 is used in flat storage, it is normally used together with sensor spears of up to 6 meters in length, which are equipped with 2 – 6 sensors each. Up to 10 spears are linked together with cable and connectors to one easily accessible acquisition point. The spears are inserted into the grain, evenly distributed throughout the area, when the flat storage has been filled and then remains there until it is emptied. The number of sensor-spears that can be used for one acquisition point is limited by the following factors: p The maximum number of sensors is limited to 32. p The maximum total cable length between the spears and to the acquisition point, not including the AB LIROS ELECTRONIC 2 A719A01 GW200manualENG071115.cdr 2.1 GW200 for use with sensor-lines GWSL1000/2000. 2. ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION The GW200 connects to the sensors at the acquisition point with a 3.5mm standard jack plug. 0V (-) If a single GWSL1000/2000 is to be used, a 2 pole cable between the top of the sensor-line and the jack plug at the acquisition point is all that is needed. The signal (+) from the jack plug is connected to the red wire in the sensorline and 0V (-) from the jack plug is connected to the black wire in the sensorline. Signal (+) The tip in the jack plug connects to the data signal (+) from the sensors and the sleeve connects to 0V (-). Signal (+) 0V (-) Red Black (Red/White) If more than one GWSL1000/2000 is to be used for one acquisition point, one or two junction boxes, JB-05, has to be used. The junction box should be placed on top of the silo, as close to the sensor-lines connected to it as possible. The connectors are attached to short cables which normally need to be extended with extension wires of a length that is individually selected to fit the plant. The connectors are polarized so there should be no way to connect them wrong. Just make sure to connect the spears in the correct order according to the sequence number for the sensor points in them. If not, the instrument will still work and display correct temperatures but it might be difficult to find out which spear in a group that has the displayed temperature. A normal measurement is done with these simple steps. 3.1 Normal use 1 Insert the jack plug at the acquisition point into the GW200. 2 Press any of the two keys on the front panel and hold it for about 1 second. The GW200 is now powered on and starts with displaying the version number of the internal software. 3 The display will now show “Scanning” for a brief period: 4 After a couple of seconds the display starts to enumerate all temperature sensors from the one with the lowest sequence number to the highest. 5 When done with all sensors, the display moves to the sensor with the highest temperature and alternates the sequence number with the text ”Hi”. At this point the highest temperature for this group of sensor lines or sensor spears is known. 6 Temperatures for other sensors can be displayed by simply pressing the up and down buttons. The display will then show next or previous sensor for this acquisition point. 7 When the buttons are not pressed, the GW200 will automatically switch of after a few seconds. During the enumeration process of all sensors in item 4 above, it is recommended to check that the instrument really displays all expected sensor numbers for the measured group. If it doesn't, the instrument hasn't found the sensor that isn't displayed which could mean that there is something wrong with the sensors. See also 3.3 Troubleshooting, below. If there are sensors missing in the sequence between the highest and lowest found sequence numbers, the display indicates this by showing dashes for that sensor instead of a temperature when the sensors are browsed with the up and down button. Note that this may not be a fault but instead a deliberately inserted delimiter between the sequence numbers of two adjacent sensor lines or sensor spears in order to easier place a sensor in its correct sensor line or spear when AB LIROS ELECTRONIC browsing them. This shows that the operator must know how many sensors there should be to be able to interpret the result correctly. 5 A719A01 GW200manualENG071115.cdr 3.2 Batteries The GW200 is powered with two standard AA sized batteries. These will normally last for approximately one year if the instrument is used once a day to measure the temperatures at a couple of acquisition points. If the batteries are almost discharged, “Low bat” will be indicated on the display alternated with the normally displayed data. Also, the background lighting for the display will be switched off in order to save power. 3.3 Troubleshooting Symptom Cause Solution The display is showing “No Line” even though the jack plug is inserted. There is no connection between the GW200 and the temperature sensors. Check the wiring. The display is continuously showing “Scanning”. The wires to the sensorlines/spears are either shorted or one or more of the sensor-lines/spears have the wires crossed. Check the wiring. One or more of the sensors for an acquisition point is skipped when the sensors are enumerated and showing the text “---“ instead of the temperature when browsing with the up/down buttons. The GW200 has not been able to find the sensor. This could be because a sensor is broken, because the same type of s e n s o r - l i n e / s p e a r, regarding sensor sequence numbers, is used for one acquisition point. Check that all sensor lines/spears are of different type regarding sensor sequence number. In case you need to contact LIROS regarding troubleshooting or service, make sure to have the version number of the internal software available - See 3.1 above. 4.
