Chapter 9. Mesh
9-1-2.
Important Notes Regarding the Use of This Function
• The adaptive mesh function can be used for the following regions and elements.
• 2D analysis -> region
• 3D analysis -> mesh (hexahedral element, pentahedron element, and tetrahedral
element) or CAD data
MEMO If a mesh is already generated in the model before the adaptive mesh function
is used, the mesh is called “initial mesh.” By generating an initial mesh in advance, the size
of the mesh to be generated by the adaptive mesh function can be controlled to some
extent.
• In 2D analyses, all elements generated using the adaptive mesh function are a triangular element regardless of the initial mesh. In 3D analyses, are element are a quadrilateral element.
• The analysis steps using the adaptive mesh function is as follows:
For example:
• For the step control settings, [Steps] is set to 10.
• For the adaptive mesh control settings, [Maximum Number of Stages] is set to 2,
and [Remesh per Stage] is set to 2.
Run analysis
Stage 0
(1) Calculate from 1 to 10 steps
(2) Detect the maximum analytical error among all steps
(3) When the maximum analytical error is greater than the acceptable error range,
generate the mesh for the first stage
(4) When the maximum analytical error is greater than the acceptable error range,
generate the mesh for the first stage (first mesh refinement)
(5) When the maximum analytical error is greater than the acceptable error range,
generate the mesh for the first stage (second mesh refinement)
Stage 1
(1) Calculate from 1 to 10 steps
(2) Detect the maximum analytical error among all steps
(3) When the maximum analytical error is greater than the acceptable error range,
generate the mesh for the second stage
(4) When the maximum analytical error is greater than the acceptable error range,
generate the mesh for the second stage (first mesh refinement)
(5) When the maximum analytical error is greater than the acceptable error range,
generate the mesh for the second stage (second mesh refinement)
Stage 2
(1) Calculate from 1 to 10 steps
