2.While continuing to ensurecartridge
is fully seated in the holder,gently
swing the filter inward until it is in a
vertical position, lffi]terwiII not swing
easily,check to ensurefilter is properly
aligned and fully seated within the
cartridge holder.
Water Filter Cartridge
Thewater filter cartridge is located in oneof the following places:
Bottom-freezer (BF)refrigerators:
- Inthe water flter compartment on the right sidewall of the
left-hand fresh food door.
- Inthe fresh food interioron the left sidewall, near the top.
3,Run2 gallons of water through the cold
water dispenser{about 5 minutes)to
remove air from the system.A newly_
installedfilter cartridge will cause
water to spur_from the dispenser.Use
o largepitcher or sports bottle to catch
the water spray.DO NOTusethe hot
water dispenseror hands-freeauto-fll
(somemodels)until all air is removed
from the system.
When to replace the filter cartridge
Thefilter cartridge should be replacedevery six months or earlier
if the flow of water to the dispenseror icemaker decreases.
TouchScreenModels:A _ter status messagewill appear on the
screenwhen the water filter needsto be replaced.Thefilter status
message mustbe reset manually.
The"Water Filter.Replace"status messagecan be reset by
entedng the Settings menu from the home screen.Then,select
the Water Filtermenu and pressthe RESETbutton. Thiswill reset
the filter status.
Non-touch Screen'Models:Afilter indicator light (or message)
will illuminateon the screenwhen the water filter needs to be
replaced.Thislight must be resetby pressingand holding the
ResetFilterbutton for three seconds,

Touch ScreenModels: AccessRESETbuttonthrough the water
Filtermenu.
Non-touch ScreenModels: Pressand hold the ResetFilterbutton
for threeseconds.
Thefilter cartridge has o maximum lifeof six months and
should be replaced when indicated bythe filter indicator on the
refrigerator,or soonerif o significant reduction inflow occurs.

and lead
to hotwater scolding.Followthe instructionsaboveto purge all air
from the systemthrough the coldwater dispenserprior to usingthe
hotwater dispenser.
Removing the filter cartridge
Toreplacethe filter,first removethe old cartridge by opening
the filter door and pulling on the bottom of the cartridge to allow
it to swing outward. When the cartridge con no longerswing,
gently pullto unseat it from the cartridgeholder.DONOTiWIST
CARTIDGEAsmall amount of water may ddp out.
Not_ [tis normal for water to appeardiscoloredduring the initial
systemflush. Water color will return to normal after first few minutes
of dispensing.
Installing the Filter Cartridge
Toreducethe riskof property damage due to water leakage,you
MUSTusethe filter bypassplug when a replacement filter cartridge
is not availabIe.The dispenser and icemakerwill not operate without
either the fi_teror bypassplug installed.The bypassplug is installed
inthe same way as afilter cartridge.
1.Aligntop of flter with cartridgeholderand pushuntil cartridge
isfully seated.

To reduce the risk associated with choking, do not allow children under 3 years of age to have access to
small parts during the installation
of this product.
The disposable filter cartridge should be replaced every
6 months at the rated capacity, or sooner if a noticeable reduction in flow rate occurs.
For the maximum benefit of your filtration system, GErecommends the use of GE-branded filters only. Using GE-brandedfilters in GE
and Hotpoint_ refrigerators provides optimal performance and reliability.GEfilters meet rigorous industry NSFstandards for safety
and quality that are important for products that are filtering your water. GEhas not qualified non-GE-branded filters for use in GEand
Hotpoint refrigerators and there is no assurance that non-GE-branded filters meet GE'sstandards for quality, performance and reliability.
