SAP 2009takesaccountofthecontributionofcertainrenewablesourcesofenergyand
someheatrecoverytechnologies, including:
• photovoltaicpanels(section 26.1);
• windturbineslinkedtoonedwelling1 (section 26.2);
• hydro-electricgenerators(section 26.3);
• wastewaterheatrecoveryunits(WWHRS) (section 26.4);
• fluegasheatrecoverysystems(FGHRS) (section 26.5).
Thedataforallthosesystemsisenteredinthe PhotovoltaicsandAlternativeTechnologies
tab(abbreviatedto PV &AltTech, Figure 26.1). Thattabisalsousedforenteringthe
amountofanyadditionalenergygeneratedbyothermeans(section 26.6.
26.1
Photovoltaicpanels
Photovoltaicpanelsgenerateelectricityfromsunlight. JPA Designerenablesyoutoincludetwophotovoltaicinstallations, toallowforsituationswherepanelsaresetattwo
differentorientations. Foreachinstallation:
1. Enterthe PeakkW ofthesystem(obtainthisvaluefromthemanufacturerorsupplier);
2. Selectthe Pitch ofthepanels;
3. Selectthe Direction whichthepanelsface;
4. Selecttheamountof Overshading (whichmaynotbethesameastheovershading
ofthewindows);
Forblocksofflats, wherethePV outputisconnectedintothelandlordsupplythetotal
PV areashouldbedividedbetweenthedwellingsinproportiontotheirtotalfloorareas.
IfthePV outputisconnecteddirectlytoindividualflatsthenthewholePV areashould
beallocatedtothoseflats.

Electricitygeneratedbyawindturbineattachedtothedwelling, oronamastwithinitsgroundscanbe
includedintheSAP calculation: however, whereaturbinesupplieselectricitytomorethanonedwelling,
orisconnectedtoadevelopmentbyprivatewire, theelectricitycannotbeincludedintheSAP calculation:
seeAppendixM oftheSAP 2009documentforfurtherdetails.
