CROP, PERMANENT PASTURE OR CONTINUOUS HAY FIELDS Fields that are described as “crop,” “permanent pasture,” or “continuous hay,” are calculated using USDA’s Nutrient Tracking Tool (NTT). The Nutrient Tracking Tool requires soil data, and information about the way you manage your rotation. You will be asked to input this data and results will be retrieved “on the fly” from NTT. NTT estimates the nitrogen, phosphorus and sediment load for your farm given the weather, soil and crop management information that you have provided. After the NTT results are estimated the reductions from the additional BMPs not modelled by NTT are applied. The following sections describe the data needed to estimate the load on your crop, permanent pasture and/or continuous hay field. FIELD AND SOIL CHARACTERISTICS On the “Soil” tab you will be asked to provide some general characteristics about your field as well as to review up to 3 soil types that were returned by the map. Field Area: The map returns an estimated value for field acreage. You can select this acreage or enter your own. 9|P a g e
