Clone- the clone button is used to duplicate an existing effect and save it as a new name or even in a different effect library. If you were adding a new effect then Clone won t really be copying anything, rather it will behave just like the Save button only with the option to save in a different effect library than the one selected in the Effect Browser. Delete- the delete option will remove the effect from your effect library if you are editing an existing effect. If you were creating a new effect, then clicking Delete would just cancel the operation and nothing would actually get deleted. Cancel- the cancel button will close the editor without saving any changes. Lance Editor The lance editor is similar to a very basic drawing program that only lets you draw one dot at a time. The drawing area is a black field with a grid of dots that help you with alignment, and you can control the spacing between the grid dots to make the squares larger or smaller. Lances are created by first selecting the desired color from the color bar and then using the mouse to click on the points where you want a lance to be. Figure 10.9 The lance editor form. Since free-hand drawing with one dot at a time can be rather difficult, the lance editor allows you to overlay a background image to use as a drawing guide. Clicking the Set button will let you select an image from your hard drive, which can be JPEG, BMP or GIF. This image is then displayed on the drawing area behind your lance points, which makes a good guide for tracing out an accurate lance piece. Clicking the Clear button will remove the background image so that you can view only the lance points. 109
