TSM8 Port Performance Report
This report provides performance data for a Transparent Synchronous Module
(TSM8). Reports are available on a module or port basis; below is a sample daily
TSM8 port performance report sorted by module address. The report can also be
sorted by report interval. (The previous section describes the TSM8 module
performance report.)

Report Interpretation
This report shows the usage and performance of the TSM8 ports in relation to the
user endpoints. The purpose of this report is to help identify and troubleshoot line
problems. A line problem can be caused by a faulty transmission facility (for example, a wire) but it could also be caused by too much traffic coming in from all ports
on that module, resulting in an underutilized port. Line problems could also be
caused by administering the wrong port speed in the database.
The key field in this report is the % UTIL for the port. Port utilization is similar to
trunk utilization. The port utilization is the average value for that interval, and it is
calculated by dividing the traffic by the capacity. A general guideline is that
average port utilization should not exceed 70%, not because of the port itself but
because of the transmission facility to which it is connected. An average below
70% means that the peak utilization will be safely under 100%.
