MVCI Technical Service continuedWired connection Please circle or specify below. Using the communication cable (USB, Ethernet crossover, or USB to Ethernet adapter) will the MVCI communicate to a vehicle? Yes No Adhoc wireless connection Will the MVCI communicate to a vehicle when setup and connected using the Adhoc network? (This is where the PC and MVCI communicate directly without using the Access point.) Yes Firmware version matches the PC Firmware versions match Confirm the firmware version is the same on both items; this check is done on HDS before vehicle communication. To test this: power on the MVCI and connect it using the communication cable (USB, Ethernet crossover, or USB to Ethernet adapter). Open HDS and select the “Select a new Vehicle” Icon. If the screen states the Firmware or CMupdate needs to be updated follow the on screen instructions. If the HDS communication error “HDS has been unable to confirm connection to the vehicle.” appears then the firmware versions match. (This HDS error only comes up when not connected to a vehicle. If the MVCI is connected to a vehicle it will communicate normally.) No Firmware versions do not match MVCI Dashboard Descriptions The MVCI Dashboard appears on the PC after the MVCI has been connected through WiFi Connection Manager. Utilize the dashboard for the following information and functions: MVCI Serial Number MVCI Connectivity Signal Radio Signal Strength Network Mode Countdown Timer Profile Switching WiFi SSID Profile Switching: Use to switch network modes. MVCI Serial Number: Displays the serial number of the MVCI that is currently connected to the PC. MVCI Connectivity Signal: Color of LED illuminated means: Red - Not connected Yellow - In process of being connected Green - Connected Radio Signal Strength: Displays strength of radio signal to the MVCI in green bars (one bar meaning a low signal up to four bars meaning a strong signal). Countdown Timer: A wireless connection will be disconnected after one hour. The dashboard timer begins at 59:59 and counts down to 00:00. Click on the timer to reset it. Network Mode: Displays the mode the MVCI is connected to (Infrastructure or Adhoc). WiFi SSID: Displays the name assigned to the Infrastructure or Adhoc network. 48
