Positioning the Cursor The most commonly-used method to move the cursor is to use the h, j, k, and l keys. You can also use the arrow keys. These keys move the cursor as follows (press 4ESC5 rst for command mode): Table 4-2. To Do This . . . Type This Command . . . Move the cursor right. l or 475 Move the cursor left. h or 465 Move the cursor up. k or 485 Move the cursor down. j or 495 4 Saving Your Work and Quitting You can save your work with or without quitting vi. Your document must be in command mode for you to be able to use the following commands to save your work. Press 4ESC5 to ensure that your document is in command mode: Table 4-3.
