PX5/4400 – NodeLink Communications Setup
NodeLink allows users to download and archive event-type data from the PX5 and 4400
via Direct-RS232 connection or via modem connection.
Direct-RS232 Connection Setup
To download events from PX5/4400 through the optical port, you must have the
following: a personal computer or laptop with Windows® operating system with either
RS232 serial port or network adapter, NodeLink®, and the appropriate Isolated
Communication Module assembly as described below.
The Isolated Communication Module assembly consists of two parts:
1. A fiber optic cable (P/N 900406) which connects the PX5/4400 optical serial port to
the communication module;
2. The communication module which is available in three types:
a 9-pin RS232 Communication Module (P/N COMM-RS232)
a USB Communication Module (P/N COMM-OUA)
an Ethernet Communication Module (P/N COMM-OEA)
The communication modules are optically isolated devices using infrared light to transfer
text and graphics to a computer running NodeLink. These modules are designed to
connect the PX5/4400 optical serial port to the appropriate interface - either a standard
RS232 serial port connector, USB adapter, or Ethernet adapter.
Each adapter interface is supported using the computer’s standard serial ports.
