Recommandations
FOR YOUR SAFETY - Do not install or operate your
STÛV fireplace without first reading and understanding
this manual. Any installation or operational deviation
from the following instructions voids the STÛV Warranty
and may prove hazardous.

This appliance and its individual shut off valve must be
disconnected from gas supply piping system during
any pressure testing of that system at test pressures in
excess of 1/2 psig (3.5 kPa).
This appliance must be isolated from the gas supply
piping system by closing its individual manual shut off
valve during any pressure testing of the gas supply
piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2
psig (3.5 kPa).
Note: When lit for the first time, the appliance will emit
a slight odour for a couple of hours. This is due to the
curing of paints, sealants and lubricants used in the
manufacturing process. This condition is temporary. Open
doors and windows to ventilate area. Smoke and fumes
caused by the curing process may cause discomfort to
some individuals.

Important Note for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts:
From Massachusetts Rules and Regulations 248 CMR 5.08:
(a) For all side wall horizontally vented gas fuelled
equipment installed in every dwelling, building or structure
used in whole or in part for residential purposes, including
those owned or operated by the Commonwealth and
where the side wall exhaust vent termination is less than
seven (7) feet above finished grade in the area of the
venting, including but not limited to decks and porches,
the following requirements shall be satisfied.
1.INSTALLATION OF CARBON MONOXIDE
DETECTORS. At the time of installation of the
side wall horizontal vented gas fuelled equipment,
the installing plumber or gas fitter shall observe
that a hard wired carbon monoxide detector
with an alarm and battery back-up is installed
on the floor level where the gas equipment is to
be installed, in addition, the installing plumber or
gas fitter shall observe that a battery operated
or hard-wired carbon monoxide detector with an
alarm is installed on each additional level of the
dwelling, building or structure served by the side
wall horizontal vented gas fuelled equipment. It
shall be the responsibility of the property owner
to secure the services of qualified licensed
professionals for the installation of hard-wired
carbon monoxide detectors.
a.In the event that the side wall horizontally
vented gas fuelled equipment is installed in a
crawl space or an attic, the hard-wired carbon
monoxide detector with alarm and battery
back-up may be installed on the next adjacent
floor level.
b.In the event that the requirements of this
subdivision cannot be met at the time of
completion of installation, the owner shall have
a period of thirty (30) days to comply with the
above requirements; provided, however, that
during said thirty (30) day period, a battery
operated carbon monoxide detector with an
alarm shall be installed.
2.APPROVED CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTORS.
Each carbon monoxide detector as required
in accordance with the above provisions shall
comply with NFPA 720 and be ANSI/UL 2034
listed as IAS certified.
3.SIGNAGE. A metal or plastic identification plate
shall be permanently mounted to the exterior of
the building at a minimum height of eight (8) feet
above grade directly in line with the exhaust vent
terminal for the horizontally vented gas fuelled
heating appliance or equipment. The sign shall
read, in print size no less than one-half (1/2)
inch in size, “GAS VENT DIRECTLY BELOW. KEEP
CLEAR OF ALL OBSTRUCTIONS”.
4.INSPECTION. The state or local gas inspector
of the side wall horizontally vented gas fuelled
equipment shall not approve the installation

unless, upon inspection, the inspector observes
carbon monoxide detectors and signage
installed in accordance with the provisions of 248
CMR 5.089(2)(a) 1 through 4.
b.EXEMPTIONS. The following equipment is
exempt from 248 CMR 5.089(2)(a) 1 through 4.
1.The equipment listed in Chapter 10 entitled
“Equipment Not Required To Be Vented” in the
most current edition of NFPA 54 as adopted by
the Board; and
2.Product Approved side wall horizontal vented
gas fuelled equipment installed in a room or
structure separate from the dwelling, building or
structure used in whole or in part for residential
purposes.
c.MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS – GAS
EQUIPMENT VENTING SYSTEM PROVIDED.
When the manufacturer of Product Approved
side wall horizontally vented gas equipment
provides a venting system design or venting
system components with the equipment, the
instructions provided by the manufacturer for
installation of the equipment and the venting
system shall include:
1.Detailed instructions for the installation of
the venting system design or the venting
system components; and
2.A complete parts list for the venting system
design or venting system.
d.MANUFACTURER REQUIREMENTS – GAS
EQUIPMENT
VENTING
SYSTEM
NOT
PROVIDED. When the manufacturer of a
Product Approved side wall horizontally
vented gas fuelled equipment does not
provide the parts for venting the fuel gases,
but identifies “special venting systems”, the
fol- lowing requirements shall be satisfied by
the manufacturer.
1.The referenced “special venting system”
instructions shall be included with the
appliance or equipment installation
instructions; and
2.The “special venting systems” shall be
Product Approved by the Board, and the
instructions for that system shall include
a parts list and detailed installation
instructions.
e.A copy of all installation instructions for all
Product Approved side wall horizontally vented
gas fuelled equipment, all venting instructions,
all parts lists for venting instructions, and/or
all venting design instructions shall remain with
the appliance or equipment at the completion
of the installation.

When lit for the first time, the fireplace will emit a slight
odour for a couple of hours. This is due to the curing of
paints, sealants and lubricants used in the manufacturing
process. This condition is temporary. Open doors and
windows to ventilate area. Smoke and fumes caused
by the curing process may cause discomfort to some
individuals.

Before commencing Installation, confirm that the details
on the appliance data plate correspond to the local
distribution conditions, gas type and pressure to which
the appliance is to be installed.

operate with natural gas (NG) or propane (LPG).

Always leave the dial on the gas control valve set to “ON”, the
“MAN” position is only for servicing and emergency use if the
handset is misplaced, or the battery fails.

3.3 Gas Type Conversion
3.3 Conversion du type de gaz
In order to change a fireplace from one gas source to
the other, request a gas conversion kit. This can only be
performed by technicians with a specific authorization
to change these components. Actual change must be
done by the authorized technician. Not all installers are
authorized to provide gas conversion services.

de conversion. Ceci ne peut être réalisé que par des

Burner

All fireplaces can be equipped with burners/ semi
burners/double burners. They can all be used with NG or
LPG.

A standard burner is easily converted to a semi burner.
The procedure is the same as replacing a standard
burner with another burner. No special materials or tools

Burner comes complete with all the necessary parts
assembled, including: venturi, nozzle, pilot, thermocouple
and spark plug. Parts are pre-set for the specific gas
type (natural/propane) and no field adjustments are
necessary.

Remove the media and vacuum all debris from firebox,
burner and grill area at least once a year (quarterly for
commercial installations).

When operating the flame from the burner should be
visually checked. It should appear blue and yellow and

approved with the appliance. If the appliance is installed

approved in combination with the components
of the following concentric flue systems: ICC
EXCELDirect and DURAVENT Direct Vent. In
accordance to the ANSI / CSA standards for
gas appliances, STÛV gas fireplaces may only
be used with these components. The use of a
snorkel or power vent is not allowed.
++ Components of concentric flue system coming
from different manufacturers may not be used
together in one installation.
++ Check whether the wall or roof termination kit to
be used exactly matches one of those listed in
this installation manual.
++ Due to the high temperature of the outer walls
(approx. 300°F 150°C), no flammable materials
may be located or used in the vicinity of the flue
system.
++ Clearance to combustible materials:

5. User instructions

5.1 First Time of Operation
5.1 Première mise en service
Before igniting the appliance, ensure that all packaging,
safety stickers and any protective wrapping have been
removed, and that the glass has been cleaned, including
all fingerprints from the glass. Ensure that the room is
adequately ventilated the first time that the appliance
is ignited, we would recommend opening windows if
possible. Run the appliance at full setting for a few hours
so that the paint gets an opportunity to fully cure. During
this period it is possible for some fumes and vapours to
be given off. We would recommend keeping children and
pets out of the area at this time.

5.2 Remote control overview

This Stûv Gas appliance has been constructed with an
advanced remote control system. This consists of three
main parts: Handset, receiver (fig. 1.1) and gas valve
with manual override (fig. 1.2). The gas control valve and
the receiver box are behind the access door. This is also
where the product data label is located.

sophistiquée. Celle-ci est composée de 3 parties : le
boîtier, le récepteur (fig. 1.1) et un bloc de réglage du
gaz avec possibilité de commande manuelle (fig. 1.2).
Le bloc de réglage du gaz et le récepteur se trouvent
derrière la trappe d’accès. Vous y trouverez également
la plaque signalétique avec toutes les informations
importantes.

Veillez à bien ventiler la pièce lors de la première mise
en service du foyer (si possible, ouvrez la fenêtre).
Laissez fonctionner l’appareil en puissance maximum
pendant quelques heures, afin de bien durcir la laque.
Il est possible qu’une certaine odeur et de la vapeur
se dégagent de l’appareil pendant ces premières
heures. C’est tout à fait normal. Il est préférable
d’éloigner temporairement les enfants et les animaux de

An alternative AC Mains Adaptor may be used to power
the Receiver instead of the 4 AA batteries. Only an AC
Mains Adapter supplied by Stûv may be used. The Mains
Adaptor is plugged into the DC 6V socket on the end of
the receiver.

Handset: There is a battery level indicator on the display
of the handset. When this gets low remove the cover
on the rear of the handset and replace the battery with
another 9V PP3 battery.

Receiver: Three short audible beeps will sound when
the appliance is on to indicate that the batteries in the

When the batteries get very low the appliance will be
turned off by the remote control. This will fail to happen if
the power supply is interrupted.
To replace the Receiver batteries, slide the cover off of
the top of the receiver and use the ribbon to pull the
batteries out. Replace the batteries with new 1.5V AA’s,
ensuring that the ribbon is located under the batteries
and that the polarity is correct on all 4 batteries.

5.3 Cleaning and Maintenance

This appliance should be inspected and serviced once
a year by a qualified, competent and registered person.
The inspection and maintenance must at least ensure
that the appliance is working correctly and safely. It is
advisable to clean the appliance of any dust and debris
before regularly during the heating season and especially
if the appliance has not been used for some time. This
can be done with a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner or
a damp cloth and if required a non-abrasive cleaning
agent. Do not use corrosive or abrasive substances to
clean the appliance.

1. Remove protection mesh.

making sure that you do not completely remove the screws.

Turn the appliance OFF and isolate the gas supply.
Ensure the appliance is fully cold before attempting to
start servicing the appliance. No liability can be accepted
by Stûv for injury caused by burning or scolding by a hot
appliance.

A. Lay out dust sheet on flooring, mask off any
special fireplace materials.

6.1 Cleaning the Ceramics
Remove the ceramics as detailed in A - E above.
Gently clean the ceramics in the open air, using a soft
brush and a vacuum cleaner. Where necessary replace
damaged components only with genuine Stûv specified
parts. Seal any scrap ceramics in plastic bags and
dispose at proper refuse sites. When using a vacuum
cleaner, it is recommended that one with a HEPA filtering
system is used.
Re-fit the Fire bed arrangement, re-seal the appliance
and check the safe operation of the appliance.

Remove the Burner Top Assemblies as detailed in A - H
above.

The pilot is now clearly visible, the pilot, including the
Thermocouple, can be replaced/serviced by removing
raising the pilot assembly from its mounting. This is
done by removing the two nuts (M4, 7mm spanner) on
the surface of the pilot. The fittings on the under-side of
the pilot can be un-done using a 10mm spanner where
appropriate.
Le jeu de veilleuse est à présent bien visible. Le
thermocouple et la bougie peuvent être nettoyés/
remplacés. Dévissez l’écrou 2 x m4 à cet effet.
To access the Main Burner Injectors, the Burner base
units must be removed. This is done by removing the four
bolts (M6, 10mm spanner) holding the burner in. With
these four bolts removed, the Burner base can be raised
up through the Firebox, and the Injectors can be easily
accessed.
Pour avoir accès aux injecteurs du brûleur principal et
du brûleur à effet, il faut enlever la base des brûleurs.
Dévissez pour cela les 4 boulons (M6). La base du
brûleur peut à présent être soulevée pour accéder aux

Turn off gas and electrical power supply (if applicable)
and allow ample time for unit to cool before servicing
appliance. It is recommended that the fireplace and its
venting should be inspected at least once a year by a
qualified service person.

Warning: Do not operate fireplace with glass panel
removed, cracked or broken. Replacement of the glass
panel should be done by a licensed or qualified service
person.

de la vitre doit être effectué par une personne qualifiée.
Do not strike or otherwise impact the glass in anyway
that may cause it to break. If the glass becomes cracked
or broken it must be replaced before using the fireplace.
Replacement glass can be obtained from your nearest
Stûv dealer. The size required is 52” x 42” x 5mm. Use
ceramic glass only. Do not substitute with any other
type.
To remove broken glass, remove window frame as noted
in “Window Frame Removal” section (section 5.4).
Ne jamais heurter ou cogner la vitre car elle pourrait
se briser. Si des fissures s’observent sur la vitre, alors
celle- ci doit être directement remplacée. Une vitre de
remplacement peut être obtenue chez votre revendeur

Unclip the Glass Retainer Clips located at the top and sides
of the Window Frame. Pull the top edge of the glass out of
the frame first, then lift it up and out of the bottom edge.
Enlever les clips de blocage situés en parties supérieure
et latérales du cadre de vitre. Tirer la vitre vers vous en
commençant par la partie haute, enlever ensuite la partie
du dessous en la soulevant légèrement.
Install the new piece of glass with the gasket into the frame
so that the thicker bead of gasket faces the fireplace.
Installer alors la nouvelle vitre et son joint dans son cadre.
Le codron d’étanchéité se loge entre la vitre et le foyer.
Re-install glass retaining clips.

Inspection annuelle
a)Remove glass panel and inspect the decorative
burner media (such as logs, pebbles, glass etc)
for soot build up. If excessive build up of soot is
present, have a qualified service person inspect
and adjust the unit for proper combustion.
Clean the decorative media and use a brush or
vacuum cleaner to clean the burner, paying close
attention to the burner ports.

operation. Clean pilot free of soot, dust or any
other deposits.

open and free from blockage or debris. If the

is important that the glass seal be maintained in
good condition.
e)Check and replace batteries as needed.
Note: The appliance area must be kept clear and
free from combustible materials, gasoline and other
flammable vapours and liquids.

The pilot flame has three distinct flames, one heating
the thermocouple, and the other two reaching the two
burners. All flames must be present.

The area around the injector should be inspected, and
any lint or foreign material must be removed with a brush
or vacuum.
