Work Orders
Work Orders
A work order is a request for work to be performed. Using work orders
allows you to both track work that has been performed in the past and future
work that is being planned. The information contained on a work order
includes the tasks performed, labor hours or services required for the work,
materials and tools needed to do the work, and the assets worked on, or
locations where the work was performed.
You can use the Work Order Tracking application to plan, review, and
approve work orders for assets, locations, or other work charged to general
ledger (GL) accounts.
You can use the Work Order Tracking application to perform every function
related to processing work orders. These tasks include creating, approving,
and initiating work orders, checking their status history, and closing or
reworking them when appropriate.
Multisite and Work Orders
Work orders are defined at the Site level. This means that:
!
Maximo requires that key fields be unique to a Site, but allows duplication
of record IDs used by other Sites or Organizations.
!
The key field must be unique for work orders where CLASS =
WORKORDER.
!
Records can only be viewed by users who have security permission to the
Site and the application.
Work Orders and Assets/Locations
Work orders are often created for an asset or location. Asset records are
created in the Assets application, and location records are created in the
Locations application.
When there is a value in the Location field on a work order, Maximo
automatically copies information from the location record to the work order.
Use the Move/Modify Assets action if the work order involves changing the
location of the asset or modifying its location in an asset hierarchy.
When there is a value in the Asset field on a work order, Maximo
automatically copies information from the asset record to the work order
including the Failure Class for the asset. You use the Failure Reporting tab
to record failure data for the asset or location.
The Asset Up? check box indicates the Up/Down status of the asset as
recorded using the Report Downtime action.
The Asset/Location Priority field displays the asset priority. Maximo
displays the location priority only if there is no value specified for asset
priority.
