Managing IT Asset Records
!
Link Rules — This application establishes a relation between a top-level
IT asset and a computer, network printer, or network device in deployed
assets. The link rule establishes the basis of the comparison by identifying
the object and attribute in IT assets to link to a specific attribute in
deployed assets.
!
Comparison Rules — This application identifies objects or attributes of
a child or parent IT asset to compare with objects or attributes of a child or
parent deployed asset when Maximo executes a reconciliation task.
!
Link Results — This application lists successful one-to-one links Maximo
establishes between a top-level IT asset and a computer, network printer,
or network device in deployed assets.
!
Reconciliation Results — This application lists link failures that occur
when Maximo does not find a successful one-to-one link between an IT
asset and a deployed asset specified in a link rule; failures occur when the
reconciliation process finds no link or finds multiple links. In addition, the
application lists results of comparison rule evaluations.
For more information about the Reconciliation Module, refer to the IBM
Maximo Reconciliation Module Implementation Guide.
Managing Software Licenses
You need to know what software is installed on your company’s computers so
that you are in compliance with licensing agreements, so that you don’t
purchase software that you already own, or purchase more software licenses
that you need. You also need to be able to track licenses that become available
through retiring or decommissioning desktops.
You need to know which versions and patch levels you are running for
software such as operating systems, network software, and anti-virus
software to be able to protect your company’s network from viruses, Trojan
horses, worms, and other programs that can damage or disable your network.
Managing Software IT Assets involves the creation of records in the following
applications:
!
Item Records — You use the Item Master application to create item
records for software licenses. Software licenses can be tracked as a group
as items on a software license contract, or as individual assets. You should
create rotating item records for software that will be tracked via the
Assets application. For more information about creating rotating item
records, see “Creating Rotating Item Records,” on page C-6.
NOTE: You must create item records before you can create contract or
purchasing records for the items.
!
Software Contract Records — You use the Purchase Contracts
application to create purchase contracts that record the pricing and
payment information for software purchases and licenses.
You also use the Purchase Contracts application to create software license
contracts, which record the specific terms of the license agreement. For
