Selecting the recording area
The Video tab of the Recording Settings dialog lets you define the screen area from which to record. This
is referred to as the "recording area" or "capture area". You have three possibilities, described in detail
below.
Selecting another application window
This lets you record all the activity taking place in another application window, to create for instance a
tutorial on how to use a particular software application.
¾ Click the Select Window button.
ScreenCorder disappears, and a frame appears around the selected window or frame.
¾ Move the mouse pointer until the window or frame you want to record from is highlighted, then leftclick to select it.
The rule of thumb when defining the recording area is that it should be as large as necessary, but as small as
possible. If your final video does not need to have a specific width and height, we recommend that you resize the
application window to make it as small as possible, yet large enough to show all the menu items, buttons and other
elements which you need to access during the recording.
If on the other hand you are creating a video for integration on a web site for instance, it will need to fit exactly in the
space allocated for it on the web page. You will need to determine the required dimensions in advance and make sure
you set the application window to these exact dimensions, to avoid any scaling or resizing when playing back the
video. Scaling and resizing usually results in loss of quality.
Unfortunately Windows does not let you specify how big an application window should be. You therefore need to use
the mouse to resize the window to the required dimensions or use a freeware tool such as Sizer
(http://www.brianapps.net/sizer.html) to set the application window to the required size.
Defining your own recording area
You can also define your own recording area with the mouse.
¾ Click the Select Area button.
