fin. T h e f u e l t a n k i s fitted w i t h a g a u g e u n i t , i n c l u d i n g
the s u c t i o n p i p e , ( F i g . 3). T h e filter o n t h e e n d of t h e
s u c t i o n pipe i s r e p l a c e a b l e u n i t a n d p r e v e n t s t h e e n t r y
of w a t e r a n d dirt. W h e n i n s t a l l i n g a t a n k u n i t , be s u r e
the filter i s p u s h e d o n t h e e n d of t h e t u b e u n t i l seated.

C A U T I O N : Be sure the ignition switch is turned off
before disconnecting or connecting the gauge wire.
Removal
(1) D r a i n t a n k into a s a f e t y c a n , t h e n d i s c o n n e c t
f u e l l i n e a n d w i r e l e a d to gauge u n i t .
(2) R e m o v e k e y s t o n e c l a m p s f r o m v e n t hoses at
v a p o r s e p a r a t o r , t h e n slide v e n t t u b e s out of f r a m e
side r a i l . ( F i g . 1).
(3) R e m o v e s c r e w that a t t a c h e s filler tube b r a c k e t
to r e a r c r o s s m e m b e r .

(4) R e m o v e n u t s that h o l d e n d s of f u e l t a n k h o l d
d o w n s t r a p s to f r a m e . L o w e r f r o n t e n d of t a n k f a r
e n o u g h to disengage filler tube f r o m r e a r p a n e l a n d
slide out f r o m u n d e r v e h i c l e .
(5) R e m o v e t a n k gauge u n i t , u s i n g s p a n n e r w r e n c h
T o o l C-3582 ( F i g . 3). C h e c k r u b b e r g r o m m e t a r o u n d
filler tube. I f c r a c k e d o r d e t e r i o r a t e d , i n s t a l l a n e w
g r o m m e t at r e a s s e m b l y .
Installation
B e f o r e i n s t a l l i n g t h e t a n k gauge unit, c h e c k t h e
condition of t h e filter o n t h e e n d of s u c t i o n tube. I f
the filter i s p l u g g e d , i n s t a l l a n e w filter.
(1) P o s i t i o n f u e l t a n k gauge u n i t i n tank, u s i n g a
n e w gasket. T i g h t e n s e c u r e l y , u s i n g T o o l C-3582. (If
t a n k i n s u l a t o r w a s t o r n o r d a m a g e d d u r i n g r e m o v a l of
t a n k , be s u r e a n d i n s t a l l a n e w i n s u l a t o r at r e a s s e m bly.) I n s t a l l v e n t hoses o n t a n k , (if r e m o v e d . )
(2) S l i d e f u e l t a n k u n d e r v e h i c l e . R a i s e t a n k f a r
e n o u g h to engage filler spout w i t h o p e n i n g i n r e a r
p a n e l , a n d locator e m b o s s m e n t s o n floor p a n .
(3) P u s h t a n k t o w a r d r e a r to f u l l y engage filler
spout i n o p e n i n g .
(4) H o l d f u e l t a n k i n this position, a n d p l a c e h o l d
d o w n s t r a p s i n position, f e e d i n g a t t a c h i n g studs
t h r o u g h holes i n e n d of straps. I n s t a l l n u t s b u t do n o t
tighten.
